Schwartz will be out several weeks and the Giants are deciding whether to use the short-term IR label on him. That can be done as soon as today. Head coach Tom Coughlin said he hoped to have Mosley back by Thursday.
Beckham, the club's top pick in last April's draft who missed the majority of the offseason program and training camp, is still not ready to practice and the Giants are reluctant to push him at this point. Coughlin estimated Beckham could be as many as three weeks away from returning.
"Let’s just let this kid get better. Everybody settle down and let the kid get better," said Coughlin when probed if there was any progress with Beckham. "I mean, I went to him and said, “Let’s not have any more setbacks.” Whatever it takes to get over this, let’s do this. Let’s encourage him, let’s not let him feel like he is an outsider, let’s get on with it. But, I mean, to talk about him every day. I will let you know when he is ready to do something, I will let you know."
One player that was on the field yesterday, was MLB Jon Beason, who many consider the heart and leader of Big Blue's defense. Beason suffered a ligament tear and a small fracture to the sesamoid in his foot during an OTA workout in June and had been sidelined ever since.
"I feel pretty good," Beason told reporters Monday. "Just happy to be back out there. Working for one common goal with my teammates. Doing what I love. It feels good to get my feet wet again."
Coughlin is also happy Beason is back. After being acquired from the Panthers on October 4th last season, Beason recorded 93 tackles (65 solo) in just twelve games with the Giants.
"His presence on the practice field is going to change things. That is going to change a lot of things," said Coughlin. "The love to play, fly around a million miles per hour, encouraging other people to do the same or better, and just how hard he plays. He shows great example in what he does, he loves the game, so it is great to have him back out there."
