SNY Insider Mike Garafolo reports from TIMEX:
The Giants are so over the Packers. They left them battered and beaten on the not-so-frozen tundra and are now stoked to move on the next game. No time to celebrate. The focus has quickly turned toward the 49ers. Everyone seems up to the challenge....
Tom Coughlin: "I am excited, excited to move on, excited to be one of the remaining four teams that will play this weekend for the AFC/NFC Championship...I did see a little bit of the 49ers game and they were really physical. It was a hard fought game that I did not see the end of but I tried to read about it the next morning. The 49ers have played extremely well all year long, they have rushed the ball, they have played outstanding defense, their quarterback came up with huge plays in the game the other day to help his team win. We are looking forward to digging in and preparing for the 49ers."
How much different is Alex Smith this time around?
Coughlin: "He has done a great job all year of taking care of the ball and doing what he is coached to do. We saw that in our first appearance out there. The team believes in him and he certainly has reinforced that with his play last weekend."
Is the 49ers defense the best you have faced this year?
Coughlin: "I am not going to get into that yet, I haven’t studied them yet. I am just getting started on their special teams but I will get to it. I will say that they are very physical and they played us tough the first time around."
QB Eli Manning: “We’re excited. It’s a big game and they’re playing great football. We know what to expect with them. They’re very a sound team. They’re very good. They have good players. They play with great energy. Their secondary has good players in it. They’re good all around. They play smart football. Their offense doesn’t turn the ball over. They run the ball. (Quarterback) Alex Smith is playing well. We know we’re going to have to play that same way. We’re going to have to play smart. Offensively, we’re going to have to be very consistent. Everybody is going to know their assignments. It’s just about execution.”
LB Mathias Kiwanuka: “It’s a rematch that we wanted. We earned it. But now we’ve got to go out there and prove it.”
S Antrel Rolle: "We wouldn’t say we’re unstoppable, but our mindset is extreme at this point. We’re not going to be denied. That’s our mindset. I might be a little biased, but in our minds we can’t be beat. That’s the approach we’re taking week-in and week-out."
