Hernandez taken into custody at 8:47am this morning at his home in North Attleboro, Mass. State and local law enforcement agents arrested Hernandez in connection with the homicide of an associate, whose body was found a quarter-mile from Hernandez' home on June 17th.
A surprised Hernandez met a half-dozen officers at his door wearing only a pair of red workout shorts. He was cuffed and a white v-neck t-shirt was pulled over his shoulders as he was led into a police cruiser via the infamous "perp walk."
No charges have been released. He will be arraigned later this morning.
The New England Patriots issued the following statement:
“A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
UPDATE 3:12pm....Hernandez has been remanded without bail after being charged with first-degree murder and five gun-related charges in Attleboro District Court this afternoon. Hernandez stood stoically as the charges were read, the DA outlined the case and the defense argued bail.
Hard to believe Hernandez thought he could get away with this after hearing the timeline of events.
