Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Hakeem Nicks will start the 2013 season valued by some of his teammates as the No. 1 wide receiver on the Giants.

Safety Antrel Rolle recently stated that Nicks is the team’s top player at his position, and on Monday, fellow wide receiver Victor Cruz also touted the fifth year Giant as the team’s best.

“I think the No. 1 wideout is Hakeem Nicks," Cruz told NFL Network's NFL AM.”I mean, he's been here longer, he understands this offense. He's our big-play guy, he's on the outside. So I definitely think he's our No. 1 receiver, there's no doubt about it."

Cruz received a six-year, $45.879 million deal earlier this offseason. He has openly campaigned for Nicks’ contract, as well as the contracts of other top receivers in the league, whether outside or slot.

“I think the numbers are the numbers,” Cruz stated on Monday. “They have to be scaled according to the tops in the league no matter where you line up on the field."

Nicks’ performance and health this season will determine whether or not he will necessitate a long-term deal. In both 2010 and 2011, Nicks surpassed 1,000 receiving yards and tallied 18 touchdowns for Big Blue.
