Both strong safeties Kenny Phillips and Stevie Brown are free agents, Corey Webster's future with the team is anything but sure and depth may surface as a real concern.
One of the more interesting prospects in this year's NFL Draft is former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu, formerly heralded as the Honey Badger for his small stature but big game.
Mathieu was dismissed from the Tigers football program when he was kicked out of school prior to the '12 season for repeated violations of LSU's substance abuse policy.
Like many other top prospects in this draft -- Manti Te'o, Alec Ogletree, to name a few -- there are concerns about Mathieu's future as a professional football player.
"I hold myself accountable for everything I've done," Mathieu said Sunday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "This past year has been tough, but at the end of the day I want them to know I'm a football player.Would the Giants take a flier on a player of Mathieu's caliber? The former LSU standout, a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011, could not only bolster the team's secondary but add another element to the return game.
"I'm not totally asking them to trust me right now. But what I am asking is for them to give me the opportunity to play the game again. I've had a lot of time to reflect on it, especially without football. It's really given me a different outlook on life."
Giants fan, would you want Mathieu on Big Blue?
