Mets rookie RHP Noah Syndergaard held the Reds to?just five singles and one run, while striking out?five batters and throwing 89 pitches, in eight innings on Friday night.

"You couldn't have told me that?s a 22-year-old kid out there today," manager Terry Collins said after the game. "He pitched an outstanding game. ...?Everybody says he throws hard, and that?s right.?Well, tonight, he commanded his off-speed pitches. If he can do that, he's gonna win a lot of games."

Syndergaard agreed with Collins?that this?is his best outing to date.

Matt Harvey was charged with four runs and?six hits with a?walk, while striking out 11 batters with a 105 pitches in eight innings, in Friday night's loss to the Marlins.

He said his only regret was?a fourth-inning backdoor slider to Justin Bour, who clobbered it for a long, three-run home run to right field.

"It's frustrating, obviously," Harvey admitted after the game. "I wish I could have that pitch back. ...?I leave a pitch over the middle, and try to throw a slider backdoor, and it kind of spun over the middle and cost us the game -- cost me the game. I'm frustrated. ... I was happy that I got to eight innings and kind of kept the game somewhat within reach. It's just frustrating. ... I needed to put up zeroes and I wasn't able to do that."

Packers longtime area scout Lee Gissendaner is on his way the New York Jets (ESPN, May 21).

Gissendaner had been with the Packers since 1998 - an area scout since 2001 - but is headed to the Jets with the offer of a promotion to national scout.

ESPN's Rob Demovsky reported that he is the only member of Green Bay's personnel department to be leaving this spring. No word yet on a possible replacement.

Jets CB Darrelle Revis said his Instagram was hacked, following a string of nasty comments directed at the New England Patriots fans upset he'd turned to the Jets this offseason (Daily News, April 12).

In the comments section of a photo he posted from the Barclays Center on Saturday, the allegedly hacked Revis account, revislandtwo4, ?wrote, "?S--t I didn?t have to go there so basically I did bill & Tom a favor not the other way around (expletive)."

That was hardly the only expletive comment, but hours later, Revis took to Twitter to clarify,??My IG got hacked. No big deal!!!"

The Mets offense came to a halt after the fourth as they dropped to 2-2 on the season with a 5-3 loss to the undefeated Atlanta Braves (4-0) on the road on Friday.


David Wright kickstarted the Mets offense with a two run homer and John Mayberry followed with a first pitch solo shot to even the score 3-3 in the fourth. But two long balls exhausted the Mets at the plate as they failed to make contact for the equalizer for the remainder of the game, ultimately falling 5-3 to Atlanta.

The Jets are already talking big game, but Jace Amaro has a few examples of how they might turn things around under the direction of new head coach Todd Bowles (Pro Football Talk, April 7).

?He?s not really playing around with everyone being late. We had an issue with that last year,? Amaro said in a radio interview. ?Guys just weren?t accountable last year as much as they could be. I think that?s the biggest thing, he?s making sure everyone?s gonna be 100 percent in or he?s not going to be on the team.?

Amaro played in 14 games, with four starts, in his rookie season. He made 38 catches for 345 yards receiving with two touchdowns.

The Jets were out in full force at the Florida State pro day as general manager Mike Maccagnan, coach Todd Bowles and offensive coordinator Chan Gailey showed up to take a look at quarterback Jameis Winston.

The Jets, who have the sixth pick, may not even have a shot at Winston, the assumed No. 1 overall pick.

He received generally positive reviews for his throwing performance at the workout on Tuesday, making 102 scripted passes, which is about 30 more than a typical quarterback on pro day.

Former Browns CB Buster Skrine agreed to a four-year, $25 million contract with the Jets and as free agency has been kind to his new squad, the cornerback is looking forward to hitting the ground running next season (CBS New York, March 18).

The New York Jets announced Wednesday that they have signed free agent defensive end Ronald Talley (New York Jets, March 4).

Talley played three seasons with Arizona including one under the Jets head coach Todd Bowles when he was the defensive coordinator in 2013.

The 29-year-old from Detroit played his first two seasons at Notre Dame and finished his collegiate career at Delaware. He signed with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in 2009, spending the following season on the Packers practice squad.

Woody Johnson has opened the discussion with Jets GM Mike Maccagnan to make a push for Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis (Daily News, March 3).

The Pats aren't expected to move forward on Revis' $20 million option bonus by next Monday. If a long-term deal can't be agreed upon by then, Revis will become a free agent, opening up the possibility of a Jets reunion.

In December, Johnson expressed his desire to bring back Revis, which angered New England and resulted in tampering charges being filed.

According to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, the Dolphins are planning to target Jets linebacker David Harris in free agency (The Score, Feb. 25).

Harris has been with the Jets for his entire career, since the team selected him him the second round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

The 31-year-old finished up his eighth season with the Jets, recording 123 tackles, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

The New York Jets are unsure when Dee Milliner will return to the starting line up, if at all, after his 2014 season was riddled with injuries (AL.com, Feb. 22).

Milliner played just three games after suffering an ankle injury in training camp and then tearing an Achilles tendon in October.

"I don't think it's a matter of relying or not relying on him," coach Todd Bowles said at the combine. "It's just a matter of getting the best players in the building. If he's healthy and ready to go, we'll see if he's one of the best players. If not, we'll have to do it elsewhere."

The Jets met with Josh McCown, one of the top free-agent quarterback options, Wednesday at the combine (Newsday, Feb. 18).

"We did visit with Josh here at the Combine, so we had a little chance for him to kind of feel us out and us to feel him out a little bit," Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said. "That doesn't necessarily mean that we're actively going after him. It's sort of an inquiry process we're going through."

The Jets don't want tunnel vision just yet, especially since this is the second time the team has pursued McCown. The 35-year old has a visit scheduled with the Jets last March, but never made it to the stadium, instead signing a two-year deal with Tampa Bay.

The New York Jets GM Mike Maccagnan is scheduled to meet with the agent for defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson at the combine in Indianapolis (ESPN, Feb. 17).

Wilkerson is entering the final year of his contract and is due to earn $6.96 million in 2015. The Jets have made it clear they'd like to lock Wilkerson into a long-term deal, and with close to $50 million in cap room, they have plenty of space to work with. Though former GM John Idzik was unable to get it done last season, as both sides failed to come close to an agreement.

The Jets have the time and resources to do the right thing in locking up the team's best player to a long-term deal this year. ?We would like to see?the Jets settle any contract talks?with the face of the franchise before the start of training camp, if not the start of free agency.

Chris Johnson will become a free agent on March 10 after the Jets declined to pick up his option on Monday, but that might not be bad news for the running back who felt he was slighted his fair share of playing time last season (Post, Feb. 16).

Johnson split carries last season with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell, which is something the team said they would do from the start of the season - though Johnson believed he would have a bigger role.

?Basically, it was a situation where I was going there to be the guy or whatever,? Johnson said Monday. ?It was still said, yeah, both guys [Johnson and Ivory] were going to get playing time. I think it was like after the [third] game or something like that, it just switched over and I started getting less and less playing time, and not knowing where it came from.?

Arizona Cardinals cornerback Antonio Cromartie isn't shy about his feelings toward New York and playing for the Jets, and his teammates have started to take notice (Post, Feb. 9).

Cromartie will be a free agent next month and has openly admitted he's thought about returning to the Jets, where he played under Rex Ryan from 2010 to 2013.

?I?m definitely trying to keep him here,? said Patrick Peterson, Cromartie's teammates in Arizona. ?It?s going to be tough, especially with Todd [Bowles, former Cardinals defensive coordinator] being in New York, and he loves [New York]. That?s all he talks about is freaking New York. I?m definitely trying to get him to stay and we?ll see what happens.?

The Jets announced the additions of Jimmie Johnson, Daylon McCutcheon and Ryan Slowik to their coaching staff Wednesday (Jets, Jan. 29).

Jimmie Johnson comes in for his ninth season coaching in the NFL as the Jets new tight ends coach. All of his NFL coaching experience comes from working with tight ends in Minnesota from 2006-13. Before becoming a coach, Johnson spent 10 years in the NFL as a tight end himself, where he was a teammate of Jets new head coach Todd Bowles in 1989-90.

Daylon McCutcherson will take on the role as defensive backs assistant, after working as a training camp coaching intern with Bowles last year in Arizona. He was a starting cornerback for the Browns for seven seasons, where Bowles was his position coach from '01-04.

Antonio Cromartie will become a free agent in March, and as he returns home after a year with the Cardinals, he said he's open to a reunion with the Jets (Post, Jan 28).

?My door is always open to returning,? Cromartie said Wednesday. ?Everybody knows I didn?t want to leave. I?m going to keep my door open and see what happens.?

Cromartie played for new Jets head coach Todd Bowles last season in Arizona, so he could be helpful in teaching Bowles defense to the Jets.

Just days before his first Super Bowl appearance, Darrelle Revis is trying to keep is cordial when pressed with Jets questions at media day (Newsday, Jan. 27).

"It's not really my fault. I didn't make the call," Revis said when asked if he feels "sorry" for Jets fans who have to watch him in the Super Bowl.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider feels bad for former Jets GM John Idzik, who left the Seattle organization in 2013 to become the new Jets GM (Newsday, Jan. 27).

"It's just my personal opinion that you should be able to hire a head coach,'' Schneider said. "And if you're going into a situation like that, try to make it work with the coach that's there, and then if it doesn't, be able to hire your own coach and see where it goes.''

Schneider, who had found himself in a similar situation to Idzik before, has tried to give his best advice.

In an interview with the Jets website, the team's new general manager Mike Maccagnan is open about the organizations new approach to free agency (Post, Jan. 21)

?We?ll be very active in free agency,? he said.

Maccagnan has a lot of money to spend, and not much of a choice whether to spend it or not. Since John Idzik kept a tight grasp on his wallet, the new GM has loose purse strings -- at least $40 million to spend under the cap.

After last week's?firings of college scouting executives Terry Bradway and Jeff Bauer, new Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said he doesn't expect any more front-office changes (NJ.com, Jan. 21).

"At this point in time, I don't anticipate any more changes on the personnel side or the football operations side," Maccagnan said. "I am looking forward to working with a lot of these people going forward, through the draft, and kind of evaluate as we go."

Of course, that's up to his discretion, which could very well change after the draft as Maccagnan has had a chance to evaluate his entire scouting department.

The Jets will be on the road in London this fall as they face the Miami Dolphins at "home" in London at Wembley Stadium -- and you can get your tickets now (Phin Phanatic, Jan. 19).

Ticketmaster U.K. has started selling tickets for the Oct. 4 game, which kicked off at 9 a.m. ET.

This will be the fourth international game in Jets history, but the first in London. For the Dolphins, this will be the second consecutive season they'll play in London, as they beat the Oakland Raiders last year across the pond.

The Mets came to terms with infielder Daniel Murphy to avoid arbitration, settling on a one-year, $8 million deal.

New York had no plans for a multi-year deal with Murphy, which sets the second baseman into free agency after the 2015 season (Adam Rubin, Jan. 16).

According to a source, Murphy requested $8.6 million and the Mets countered with $7.4 million.

The Arizona Cardinals reportedly released LB coach Mike Caldwell from his contract so he could sign on as the Jets assistant head coach (Kent Somers, Jan. 16).

This comes just two days after Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles took over as head coach for the Jets.

Caldwell joins the Arizona coaching staff in 2013 after spending five years with the Philadelphia Eagles.

While the Jets haven't made anything official with potential offensive coordinator recruit Chan Gailey, soon-to-be free agent C.J. Spiller said it would be a big draw to have the former Bills head coach in his corner again (Daily News, Jan. 16).

?There is that familiarity between me and him in that offense,? Spiller said Thursday. ?So that would be a perfect match. Who knows what can happen, but I?d be foolish not to have those guys on my list. I had my best years in the league with Chan. So it?d be dumb not to give it serious thought.?

Spiller had a breakout season in 2012 under Gailey with 1,703 total yards, eight touchdowns, 43 receptions and tied for a league-high 6.0 yards per carry, but? struggled under Doug Marrone.

Gary Kubiak, the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator announced on the team's official website Sunday night that we will return to the Ravens in 2015 (ESPN, Jan. 11).

Kubiak has drawn attention from the Jets and the Chicago Bears, but despite earlier reports that he was putting off interviews until the Ravens' season ended, the former Houston Texans' coach has decided to stay put.

Regardless of Kubiak's decision, the Jets have favored Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, though he has interviewed with three other teams.

Dan Quinn has emerged as the front-runner for the Jets head coaching job and Houston Texans' director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan has emerged as the front-runner for the GM job. (ESPN, Jan. 9).

While the Jets can't make Quinn a formal offer until the Seahawks' season is over, which may not be for another three weeks, they appear to be closing in on their GM after interviewing seven candidates.

The Jets met for a second time with Maccagnan on Friday, just four days after his first interview, and spent most of the day with owner Woody Johnson and team officials. Sources said that if everything goes well, the deal could be finalized with the Texans' director of college scouting over the weekend.

A source confirmed the scheduled interview to NJ Advanced Media, though they asked to remain anonymous. While there is still some uncertainty surrounding the interview, the Jets' interest in Reich had already been confirmed as he finished his first season as the Chargers' offensive coordinator.

Reich, who played for the Jets in 1996, is the fifth confirmed candidate to interview for the head coaching job with the Jets since they fired Rex Ryan on Dec. 29.

Though the Jets ended their dismal season with a win over the Miami Dolphins, that will hardly make a difference in the fate of head coach Rex Ryan.

After the win on Sunday, the focus turned to the impending decision on his head coach from Jets owner Woody Johnson. Ryan is no rookie as he said he understands how this works after a 4-12 season, following an 8-8 season in 2013 (NY Times, Dec. 28).

With changes ahead, Ryan is bravely looking forward.
