The Elite 24 game will return to New York City from Venice Beach, Calif., in 2013, a source close to the event told SNY.tv Friday.

The event was launched in the summer of 2006 at Harlem?s famed Rucker Park and held at Rucker Park for its first four years. In 2010, the game moved to Venice Beach, in part due to weather concerns in New York.

It remains unclear where in New York the 2013 game will be held, but the source, who was granted anonymity because he is not authorized to speak publicly about the move, said it's definitely coming back to the Big Apple.

Ever since the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Game and the Jordan Brand Classic left the Big Apple, New York City has lacked a big-time high school basketball showcase.

That doesn't appear to be the case anymore.

Donald Sparks and the organizers of "The Big Strick Classic" have lined up a heavyweight lineup for their game Aug. 11 in the Nat Holman Gym at City College.

Savon Goodman has switched AAU programs.

The 6-foot-5 Villanova-bound wing will run with the Playaz Basketball Club U17 team this summer instead of Team Philly.

"Savon brings a sense of toughness to the team," Playaz coach Kyle Anderson Sr. said. "With his size, athleticism and high motor, we will be able to play him at the two, three or four. At times, we will be able to have five guards on the floor (Kyle Anderson, Darrick Wood, Myles Davis, Dallas Anglin or Chris Jones) and with Kyle and Savon's rebounding ability, we will still be able to compete at a high level."

By JASON BELZER

Their eyes dart back and forth, trying in vain to keep up with the hazy bodies of the young men laboring their way up and down the court. One after another, they pull out handkerchiefs and frantically wipe away the drops of sweat that role down their foreheads and into their eyes, obscuring their vision, until they realize it is a futile effort in this scorching heat. You can catch them glancing down at their wrists more than the court, hopelessly willing the hands of their watches to move faster towards the afternoon hour and a break from the dreadfulness. One wonders why anyone would subject themselves to such circumstances, especially men of such perceived fame and stature, but alas, such is the life of the college basketball coach on the summer recruiting trail.

While fans sit and enjoy the games from their comfortable living room couches, most fail to realize that the outcomes of those contests have often been decided long before. The real battles in college basketball are the ones that involve recruiting - particularly the few weeks in July when hundreds of coaches hit the road to evaluate players and attempt to find a diamond in the rough. The faith of those very coach?s jobs, and the hopes of thousands (if not millions) of their school?s fans, hangs in the balance during those few dog days of summer.

One of the more intriguing questions during the spring travel team season is not what school Lance Stephenson or John Wall will sign with, but what does Chris Rivers' move back to adidas mean for the grassroots circuit?

Rivers (pictured at left above with O.J. Mayo)? is currently the Director of Basketball at Reebok and directs the Reebok All-American Camp in Philly, formerly the ABCD Camp run by Sonny Vaccaro. Now sources say he is preparing for a return to adidas sometime next month.? Rivers left adidas for Reebok in 2003.

Rivers' exact role is not clear, but in an unrelated move Daren Kalish, head of adidas Grassroots Basketball, has recently resigned to pursue a profession outside of the shoe industry, which definitely raises questions about whether Rivers will return to his old post.
