Nope, those aren't typos.

The Mets re-acquired 2B/UT Anderson Hernandez who was hitting .251/.310/.320 in Washington for Greg Veloz who was hitting .232/.297/.303 with advanced-A St. Lucie.

The 21-year-old Veloz (picture) began the year as St. Lucie's everyday 2B, but lost playing time along the way to the immortal Hector Pellot.? The swift Veloz, who has never learned to take a pitch, has a chance to be Hernandez when he grows up, but he might not even progress that far. I'm running the Veloz headshot because, well, when else will I ever use it again?

This is part four of my continuing review of my pre-season ranking of the Mets Top 41 prospects.? Part 1 (36-41) is here, part 2 (31-35) is here and part 3 (26-30) is here.? Among this group, there's only one guy decidedly up (Beaulac) while Nieuwenhuis is in a similar position he was at the beginning of the year.

#21 LHP Angel Calero

Over the last two days with Jose Reyes and Alex Cora out, and Ramon Martinez sucking (0-for-12 and counting) I've receieved a number of questions about in-house options for the SS position.? The short answer: there are no better viable options.

However, that doesn't make for a really interesting post, so we'll dig a little deeper.

Here are the Mets minor league SS:

Tuesday, in the Mets 5-5 tie with Washington, Nick Evans was 2-4, with a 2B, 3B, BB, and an RBI.? Each of his last three hits have gone for extra bases including his slam on Monday.? That modest power boost has raised his slugging percentage nearly .300 points in five AB.? Yay for small sample sizes (Yfss).? However, since the Mets released Duaner Sanchez, Marty Noble suggests that the team is likely to carry seven relievers and just five bench players in which case Evans would be Buffalo bound.

2B Greg Veloz was 0-2.? He is 0-5 this spring.

C Josh Thole was 1-1 with two walks.? This spring he's drawn three walks and fanned just once, while singling thrice in six AB.? That adds up to a .667 OBP.? (Yfsss)

Because it was so much fun to compare the hitters in the Dominican Winter League to their overall league environment, I thought I'd run through the exercise (and spreadsheets) for each of the important winter leagues.? Here's Hawaii Winter Baseball.

In Saturday?s game, the Honolulu Sharks pounded Yankees 2007 first rounder Andrew Brackman for seven runs in 2.1 IP in the massive righty?s professional debut. C Jordan Abruzzo was 1-4 with an RBI and 2B Greg Veloz was 1-4 with a double. Josh Stinson gave up two unearned runs in three innings, fanning two without walking a batter for the win. Junior Guerra struck out four in two innings (good) but also gave up two runs on three hits (not so good) without giving up a walk (good). LHP sidewinder Roy Merritt fanned four more batters in his two frames.

2B Greg Veloz was promoted from the Savannah Sand Gnats to St. Lucie Sunday. Veloz leaves the SAL after hitting .286/.339/.402 in 455 AB over 111 G. Veloz had hit .258/.304/.352 in his first 267 AB before the All-Star Break, but had cranked that up to .324/.388/.473 in 188 post-break AB with more power and more patience. Veloz was 1-4 in his St. Lucie debut Sunday.

Peeter Ramos was promoted from St. Lucie to the B-Mets.

I suspect that Brooklyn and Savannah will also make corresponding moves.
