Title: Director, Digital Platforms and Strategy

Company Overview: Since its launch in 2006, SNY has established itself as the linear and digital home for all things New York sports. Position Overview: The Director, Digital Platforms and Strategy will work with both internal and external partners to help drive the strategic, multiplatform digital content initiatives of SportsNet New York. The Director's primary focus is expanding availability, consumption and monetization of SNY's content across a variety of platforms. This person is also responsible for the strategic direction and operation of the company's digital platforms. This role will report directly to SNY's President.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Help lead SNY's digital content strategy by developing, executing, and aligning multiplatform strategies based upon current and emerging trends in the linear and digital programming space.
  • Direct SNY's strategy on all innovations and renovations of all digital products including website, mobile app, podcast platforms, VOD and direct-to-consumer.
  • Collaborate with key contacts at SNY's platform partners to create and evolve best in class distribution portals on all platforms.
  • Oversee and maintain SNY's digital budget.
  • Partner with SNY's remote and studio production teams for content delivery across various platforms.
  • Identify innovative ways to implement new and existing content and monetization strategies across all platforms and communicate plan to key stakeholders across all levels.
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with network content and revenue partners such as sports teams, advertisers, and other related businesses.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including sales, marketing and production, to create and execute programming initiatives to expand the brand.
  • Match business objectives against opportunities and perform market intelligence
  • Lead partnership evaluation process; outline value exchange; coordinate modeling with Finance.
  • Run point on follow ups with internal/external parties to make partnerships operational.
  • Develop, manage, and maximize external partnerships that drive growth for SNY's digital platforms.
  • Find new ways to approach existing business to generate more revenue or operate more efficiently.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field, or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum six (6) years' experience in content distribution, platform development and partnerships within the media industry.

Title: Ad Sales Associate

Position Overview: SNY is currently seeking a Sales Associate for a full-time ten month position. This position will support the linear and digital sales efforts of our Ad Sales Department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Sales Support:

  • Attend weekly sales meetings to understand department initiatives and goals.
  • Research sales leads within the competitive linear and digital landscape.
  • Work with sales leaders to pursue active prospects and assist in preparation of sales presentations.
  • General administrative support as required: order input, printing, invoicing, filing, etc.

Account Management:

  • Coordinate all sold deliverables between sales and digital departments to ensure execution during anticipated flight dates.
  • Gather daily screenshots of all digital deliverables.
  • Pull banner ad delivery reporting from Double Click.
  • Build campaign summary decks for all campaigns in PPT.
  • Coordinate billing between sales, traffic and finance departments.

On-Air and Online Promotions

  • Work with sales and legal department on coordination of sweepstakes official rules, promo and banner legal copy and/or prize fulfillment.

Event/Project Planning:

  • Provide planning and execution support to various sponsor related events such as client receptions and trips, commercial shoots, etc.

On-Air Enhancements

  • Track and catalogue proof of performance clips for all sponsors.

  • Crew leader who works with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming, under supervision of Director & Operations management.
  • Build and organize switcher effects, snapshots, transitions and specialty wipes.
  • Help provide solutions for studio, and control room production needs.
  • Test and prepare television technical operations systems and equipment for use including automation coding.
  • Work closely with Operations Management and Engineering to ensure all equipment is meeting expectations.

  • Work creatively and collaboratively with Production and Operations management to establish sound production practices for the delivery of content within sports, news, and topical programming.
  • Become fully knowledgeable in all aspects of operation and basic maintenance of the production audio systems including but not limited to: audio console, RTS intercom system programming, audio server routing, RF microphones and IFBs as well as other audio or communication related support systems.
  • Perform daily set-up operations and continuously monitor audio levels from all sources across multiple studios to ensure consistent quality in accordance with established industry standards and guidelines.
  • Pro-actively and as directed, maintain the integrity of all associated audio and support equipment, notifying Operations management should anything require repair or replacement.
  • This is a part-time role that will be 3 days a week, 24 hours per week.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Work with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming, under supervision of Director & Operations Management.
  • Perform facility check with A1 from all mic and IFB positions in studio before daily production schedule begins.
  • Set up (pre-set, dress) and remove all mics and IFBs from guests prior to and after their appearance on SNY.
  • Pro-actively and as directed, maintain the integrity studio appearance and all associated audio equipment including mics, IFBs, batteries, cables etc., notifying Operations management should either be in need of repair, replacement or maintenance.
  • Stage sets as needed for all programming.
  • Maintain and inventory studio props.
  • Assist on-screen hosts and guests as needed to facilitate production (as needed).

Title: Nightside Editorial Producer

Position Overview: Freelance Editorial Producers help write, edit, manage and coordinate content across SNY platforms, delivering great content while using data at times to drive decisions. Freelance Editorial Producers, reporting to the Senior Editorial Producer, will help ensure that SNY provides users with the most relevant, timely and engaging New York sports content possible. This role will cover shifts on nights and weekends.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Proactively propose original, timely and innovative stories covering New York sports.
  • Write, edit and post stories to our digital properties utilizing a content management system and other digital tools.
  • Help post and manage the placement of content on the SNY home page that reflects the most relevant and timely news in New York sports.
  • Write and report on various events (games, practices, etc.) and provide articles in timely manner covering the key news/storylines of the day.
  • Promote content with journalistically accurate, creative, engaging and SEO-friendly headlines.
  • Assist Senior Editorial Producer with updating editorial calendar, working with insiders, video and social team to develop story ideas and make sure our work is being tracked.
  • Proactively search for latest and relevant content around the web, social media and other platforms that can be spun into stories relevant to our fans ("content mining").
  • Produce newsletters, manage alerts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a passionate and accurate writer/editor with a deep knowledge of New York sports and its professional and collegiate teams, who knows how to aggregate, find and program engaging sports content.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience editing & writing digital sports content.
  • Willingness to work long hours and on weekends with short notice - shifts range anywhere from as early as 8 a.m. and as late as 2 a.m. A Freelance Editorial Producer may work anywhere from about 10 to 30 hours per week, depending on availability.

Internships


SportsNet New York has internships available for the spring, summer and fall semesters.

Fall 2019: Applications will be accepted starting on July 1.

Interns, who must have completed their sophomore year in college will be paid and may receive college credit if needed. The minimum GPA requirement for our internship program is a 3.0. Interns will receive hands-on experience assisting in a wide range of the station's operations. Interns generally work approximately 20 hours per week, which may include nights and weekends. Internships are available in the following departments:

Newsroom

The Newsroom at SportsNet New York is responsible for the day-to-day planning and production of SNY's on-air schedule. Additionally, the department produces "Daily News Live," "Loud Mouths," "GEICO SportsNite," and Mets, Jets, and UConn programming.

Interns will assist with the following:

• Screening/logging of games, press conferences, interviews and taped programs to prepare for editing
• Researching for graphic boards, creating on-air graphics, and assisting the ticker operators
• Assisting Associate Producers in the edit rooms
• Working on the production of "Daily News Live," "Loud Mouths," "Geico SportsNite" and Mets programming
• Preparing, copying and distributing programming information and scripts
• Doing detail work to procure footage from external sources
• Working the Assignment Desk and answering the newsroom hotline
• Any other tasks needed to support the network's day-to-day operations

Candidates should be concentrating in communications, with an education and/or training in broadcasting. They should also have a strong interest in televised sports and production. Proficiency in computers and typing is a must. They should also be familiar with the programs currently presented on SportsNet New York.

Affiliate, Marketing and Programming

Interns in the department will assist the Marketing/ Programming Staff in various consumer marketing, affiliate marketing, public relations, on-air promotion, program planning, ratings research and website related tasks. Interns will be assigned on-going, daily responsibilities as well as stand-alone projects and will assist with various office and administrative duties. Interns will attend weekly department meetings and various project meetings throughout the semester. Requirements and skills are as follows:

Affiliate:

• Assists with creating unique programming schedules as requested by affiliates
• Keeps up-to-date distributors channel information for internal documents as well as making sure affiliates websites promote SNY correctly
• Sends affiliates premiums and tickets as needed
• Create spreadsheets as needed to show year over year comparisons for affiliates (ticket use, incentive programs, marketing participation)
• Helps manage the premium closet and keep track of inventory

Marketing:

• Assists the Marketing Staff with various consumer marketing tasks
• Reviews games to ensure drop-ins and promotions are executed
• Assists the on-air promotion department by cataloging videos
• Sends materials for trade partnerships including premiums and signage
• Creates and keeps up-to-date the calendar for all SNY trade partnerships including event dates and media schedules on SNY
• Assists marketing team by researching images for network creative around Mets and Jets partnership deliverables

Programming:

• Assists in creating weekly contingency programming for live sports programming
• Screens various programming for quality control
• Assists in the creation of monthly schedule grids for VOD, Mets Fast Forward, Closed Captioning
• Helps work with Master Control on coordinating feed schedules
• Provides support in creation of schedules and rating analysis projects
• Inputs monthly schedules into Nielsen scheduling system

IT

As an IT Support Technician intern you are the go-to person for SNYs' computer hardware and software needs, providing front line user support for all of SNYs' internal tools and technologies.

You are highly technical and are comfortable problem solving across multiple operating systems and devices. You troubleshoot, respond to inquiries and find solutions to technical challenges. You have a passion for sports, technology, computing, and the Internet, and care deeply about helping people. You will use your inquiring, problem-solving mind to dig deep and find the underlying issues to tackle challenges. Beyond the day-to-day, you will contribute to longer-term technical and non-technical projects and documentation efforts that support the people and technology that make SNY happen.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct support for desktops/laptops and user access to corporate network and applications both on the network as well as through remote VPN access
• Assist with moving equipment and users
• Provide direct support for services such as office phones, Android/iPhones/iPads mobile devices, conference rooms and remote access.
• Provide basic corporate network infrastructure and server support
• Provide direct support for SNY's corporate resources and applications

Minimum qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a BS or MS in computer science or a related technical field.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working in an IT department or PC support, or in another technically-focused service environment
• Ability to configure, upgrade and relocate PC hardware, software and print devices
• Experience in basic Microsoft server configuration and support
• Understanding of LAN/WAN environments

Digital

Interns in the department will assist the SNY.tv Digital Media Staff in various production and marketing related initiatives including research, audio/video production, news gathering, editing content for the web site, generating traffic reports for analysis and assisting in the management of sales inventory, creating sales decks and campaign recaps. Interns will be assigned on-going, daily responsibilities as well as stand-alone projects. Requirements and skills are as follows:

• Strong interest in the web, mobile, social media, sports and television
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and creative skills
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; meet deadlines and work as part of a team while also being able to work independently in a fast paced environment
• Possess great organizational skills and has excellent track record for following through on projects
• Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Able to commit at least three days per week (2-5 hours/day)
