Title: NBA Insider

Company Overview: Since its launch in 2006, SNY has established itself as the linear and digital home for all things New York sports. From our new state-of-the-art facilities at 4 World Trade Center we develop more original NY sports news and entertainment content than anyone else in the industry.

Position Overview: Our SNY Insiders are the go-to inside source for news and information about our New York teams, leveraging team/league sources to break news, write features, discover and create viral and engaging content. Reporting to the digital Editor-In-Chief and the VP of Studio Programming & Production, Insiders will work across digital and linear, often appearing on our linear programs and will help write, edit and produce compelling digital video packages, in addition to daily written beat reporting/feature writing across their assigned teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Produce a mixture of features, deep-dive and snackable content to grow SNY's digital and linear audience
• Work directly with our assignment desk and Editor-In-Chief to help plan and execute content strategies. Attend games, practices, press-conference and media availabilities as needed
• Contribute/host podcasts, Facebook Live events, promote and distribute content on personal social media channels as well as aid in the growth of SNY social platforms
• Collaborate with other SNY writers and reporters on special events (major signing, draft, combine, game days) to ensure the proper content is being created
• Be on-call for breaking news, phoners or in-studio appearances
• Research, write and report multiple stories per week
• Break stories and write and report with accuracy and skill under deadline pressure
• Conceptualize, develop and pursue original, standout exceptional enterprise journalism
• Ensure all reporting is factual and accurate
• Spot trending content before it takes off, and pitch stories to Editor-In-Chief and Editorial Producers

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, communications or related field
• Minimum 5 years covering relevant New York market teams and leagues, or equivalent reporting/on-air talent experience
• Exceptional writer with the ability to leverage pop culture effectively in creating relevant content engaging for SNY's audiences
• Deep expertise on local teams and leagues
• Prolific ability to conceptualize, ideate, and execute effective coverage of multiple developing stories and angles on a day-to-day basis.
• Knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools and contemporary newsroom systems
• Willingness to work long hours and on weekends with short notice
• Previous on-air or studio experience preferred

Title: Multiplatform Photographer

Responsibilities:

  • NBC Sports Group is looking for a Multi-Platform Field ENG Photographer to join our SNY Team. SNY is the official television home of the New York Mets, Jets and all things New York sports. As the Multi-Platform Field ENG Photographer your primary duties will be shooting in the field. Duties include shooting sports packages/segments, producing content in style, length and format appropriate to relevant platforms and traveling throughout the Greater New York City area to provide live coverage at sporting events.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience in shooting with ENG cameras and the latest camera technology, including smart phones
  • Experience in ENG live shot set-up and execution
  • Experience in interview lighting and audio (both indoor and outdoor)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high pressure environment with a positive attitude

Eligibility Requirements:

Title:  Studio Operations Manager

The Studio Operations Manager is a full-time, project-based position that should last for approximately 18 months.  

Position Overview: This position is responsible for the overall direct scheduling and supervision of all non-union technical crews.   Candidate should be a strong managerial leader with broadcast experience; a positive, self-starter who can interact with all levels of production and senior management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In conjunction with Technical Operations Manager, manage staff and freelance broadcast crew personnel. Includes all crew scheduling, training and hiring, performance evaluation and feedback, compensation evaluation and addressing all employee related issues.
  • Ability to interact with all areas of production and senior management to maximize resources and ensure a quality, seamless production in a changing, fast-paced, live studio environment.
  • Support studio operations from live control room by acting as quality control person for check in of incoming remote feeds, including but not limited to routing, video processing, aspect ratio conversion / verification, audio and remote communications.
  • Along with Technical Operations Manager, maintain weekly studio budget and overtime levels. Maintain weekly financial reports as needed.
  • Operational and troubleshooting knowledge of all production systems currently in use to ensure a consistently high level of technical quality across all productions including but not limited to video, audio, Overdrive and lighting systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot audio, video, and intercom systems, operate test equipment and clearly communicate technical problems to engineering is required.
  • Perform other related duties as required and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS degree in related field or equivalent experience required.
  • Must have a minimum of five to seven years professional broadcast / cable technical production management experience, and should include live studio and remote experience.
  • Familiarity with routers, Grass Valley production switchers, Vizrt Graphics, SSL audio, iNews, Avid Interplay, RTS Intercom and AutoScript prompter systems a plus.
  • Must be familiar with basic Microsoft Office programs.

Title: Staff Engineer

Position Overview: This position is responsible for maintaining equipment & technical standards at a production and newsroom facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support multiple daily live studio productions
  • Act as quality control for incoming/outgoing news & game feeds
  • Perform emergency & preventative maintenance on studio, ENG & newsroom equipment
  • Design and integrate capital improvement projects
  • Perform other studio and remote related duties as required and assigned

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a minimum of five years professional broadcast engineering experience in a digital production facility
  • Experience with Avid editing systems desired

Job Duties:

  • Work with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming under supervision of Director and Operations management
  • Ability to proficiently operate Cammate Jib, stedicam and hand-held cameras equally as dictated by productions demands
  • Assist in maintaining all of the above cameras and rigs in good working order
  • In coordination with the Director, create and offer visually interesting and varied subject shots
  • Willingness and ability to train others as needed for back-up purposes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Communications) or equivalent work experience required. 
  • Two (2) years of experience in live, multi-camera studio production preferred, with related camera operator experience required 
  • Knowledge of Cammate Jib & stedicam rigs along with Ikegami HD cameras

Job Duties:

  • Perform facility check with A1 from all mic and IFB positions in studio before daily production schedule begins
  • Set up (pre-set, dress) and remove all mics and IFBs from guests prior to and after their appearance on SNY
  • Pro-actively and as directed, maintain the integrity studio appearance and all associated audio equipment including mics, IFBs, batteries, cables etc., notifying Operations management should either be in need of repair, replacement or maintenance
  • Stage sets as needed for all programming

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming, under supervision of Director & Operations Management
  • Assist set up (pre-set, dress) studio props and set elements daily (as needed)
  • Pro-actively keep the studio floor safe for all tech traffic, including robotic camera movement as well as for all talent.
  • Make safety of hand held camera a priority, given movement whether in-studio, at a satellite set or on location.
  • Maintain continuity of all related camera equipment, including studio facs out and tear down at end of day.
  • Assist on-screen hosts and guests to facilitate production (as needed)

JOB DUTIES:

• Crew leader who works with technical and news staff to satisfy production needs for live, taped and automated programming, under supervision of Director & Operations management
• Build and organize switcher effects, snapshots, transitions and specialty wipes
• Help provide solutions for studio, and control room production needs
• Test and prepare television technical operations systems and equipment for use including automation coding
• Work closely with Operations Management and Engineering to ensure all equipment is meeting expectations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Title: Freelance Editorial Producer

 

Position Overview:

Freelance Editorial Producers help manage and coordinate content across SNY platforms, are production specialists who deliver great content using data to drive decisions. Freelance Editorial Producers, reporting to the Senior Editorial Producer, will help coordinate a team of writers and editors to ensure that the network provides users with the most relevant, timely and engaging New York sports content possible.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively propose original, timely and innovative stories covering New York sports.
  • Produce, write, edit and post stories (textual, video, photos, and audio) to our digital properties utilizing a content management system and other digital tools.

Position Overview:

The Freelance Social Media Editor will help manage SNY's social media presence to maintain consistent voice and own audience interaction across social media platforms. Newsroom

The Newsroom at SportsNet New York is responsible for the day-to-day planning and production of SNY's on-air schedule. Additionally, the department produces "Daily News Live," "Loud Mouths," "GEICO SportsNite," and Mets, Jets, and UConn programming.

Interns will assist with the following:

• Screening/logging of games, press conferences, interviews and taped programs to prepare for editing
• Researching for graphic boards, creating on-air graphics, and assisting the ticker operators
• Assisting Associate Producers in the edit rooms
• Working on the production of "Daily News Live," "Loud Mouths," "Geico SportsNite" and Mets programming
• Preparing, copying and distributing programming information and scripts

Operations

SNY Operations Interns will have an opportunity to work in one or more of our locations; the office, our studio and remote events. While some interns are assigned to a main focus, all interns are rotated through each area at least once to see all aspects of the dept. This also allows them to focus on specific areas of interest that they have developed or develop while doing their internships. All SNY Operations Interns are requested to fill out a schedule and education plan which ensures that they are exposed to as many aspects as possible of the network. Interns will assist in a wide range of the station's operations and the responsibilities will include:

Operations office/studio:

• Distributing and updating production documents, schedules, misc. paperwork
• Running errands to pick up supplies and materials for remotes
• Observing in the studio control room and in the studio setting to how the network produces live on air programming in conjunction with live news remotes
• Observing and meeting with other depts. by appt. (newsroom, programming, accounting, marketing, sales, traffic, etc.)
• Research locations, teams, towns for operations tactical planning
• Interface with all areas and levels of internal and external contacts, sr. management, talent and others in a professional manner
• Library Data Entry for our SNY Library System including taping, screening, organizing games/inventory of tapes for Mets Games
• Assist in planning and organization of annual crew BBQ

Operations remote (Mets, Brooklyn Cyclones, UConn basketball):

• Light general office work, answering phones, faxing, running errands for the production staff, etc.
• Providing truck with Media/PR updates and team notes, line ups etc.
• Assisting roving reporter when necessary to help ease movement around stadium
• Observing in the truck and out in the field with roving reporter to see how the network produces live sports game coverage
• Fall interns get a chance to visit the Jets production team one week to observe how a game week is covered in from post Sunday game coverage thru to the Thursday night Jets programming

Feature Production

Feature Production at SportsNet New York, is responsible for the original programming aired on the network. The department produces "Mets Insider," "Kids Clubhouse," "The Geno Auriemma Show," "Geno's Legacy," "Mets Classics," and "Mets Yearbooks" and other specials including "SNY Spotlights" and features within shows like "Geico Sportsnite." Interns will be exposed to variety of facets in Feature Production and the responsibilities will include:

• Screening/logging of games, press conferences/interview and taped programs to prepare for editing
• Helping organize b-roll in AVID
• Working on the production of "Mets Insider," "Kids Clubhouse," "The Geno Auriemma Show," and other programming
• Researching statistics, brainstorming segment ideas
• Assisting on shoots in the field when called upon
• All other duties needed in Feature Production's everyday operation

Candidates should be concentrating in communications with a strong interest in televised sports and production, have some education or training in broadcasting, and proficiency in computers. They also should be familiar with the programming currently presented on SportsNet New York.

Affiliate, Marketing and Programming

Interns in the department will assist the Marketing/ Programming Staff in various consumer marketing, affiliate marketing, public relations, on-air promotion, program planning, ratings research and website related tasks. Interns will be assigned on-going, daily responsibilities as well as stand-alone projects and will assist with various office and administrative duties. Interns will attend weekly department meetings and various project meetings throughout the semester. Requirements and skills are as follows:

Affiliate:

• Assists with creating unique programming schedules as requested by affiliates
• Keeps up-to-date distributors channel information for internal documents as well as making sure affiliates websites promote SNY correctly
• Sends affiliates premiums and tickets as needed
• Create spreadsheets as needed to show year over year comparisons for affiliates (ticket use, incentive programs, marketing participation)
• Helps manage the premium closet and keep track of inventory

Marketing:

• Assists the Marketing Staff with various consumer marketing tasks
• Reviews games to ensure drop-ins and promotions are executed
• Assists the on-air promotion department by cataloging videos
• Sends materials for trade partnerships including premiums and signage
• Creates and keeps up-to-date the calendar for all SNY trade partnerships including event dates and media schedules on SNY
• Assists marketing team by researching images for network creative around Mets and Jets partnership deliverables

Programming:

• Assists in creating weekly contingency programming for live sports programming
• Screens various programming for quality control
• Assists in the creation of monthly schedule grids for VOD, Mets Fast Forward, Closed Captioning
• Helps work with Master Control on coordinating feed schedules
• Provides support in creation of schedules and rating analysis projects
• Inputs monthly schedules into Nielsen scheduling system

Sales

SNY's Advertising and Sponsorship Sales department is seeking a highly motivated, sports business intern to join the team!

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting Promotions Manager in developing, scheduling, and executing all promotions on-air and on-site
• Assisting Promotions Manager in capturing clips and screen grabs of all on-air enhancements
• Working with sales team managing current clients
• Working with sales team to prospect new clients
• Working with sales team to manage and execute special events at the SNY studio, around New York City, and/or at Citi Field
• Assisting sales team in other daily administrative tasks including filing, labeling, mailing, etc.
• Client interaction at Mets games and other events in New York City and/or at Citi Field

Intern can expect to gain experience in sales, sponsorship, marketing, advertising, promotions, media and the general sports industry.

Accounting

Interns in the department will have the opportunity to work with the Accounting Department and understand the purchasing and procurement cycle, as well as the employee expense reimbursement process and policies. They will work with Payroll in understanding the payroll cycle and work with Office Administration on learning various aspects of office management. Interns will work with Human Resources in administration of employee paperwork and ensuring they are in compliance with state and federal guidelines. Requirements and skills are as follows:

• Ability to learn in a fast paced environment
• Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal
• Ability to follow instructions
• Assist the Accounting Department with day to day workload
• Assist the Human Resources/Payroll Department with weekly processing
• Assist in day to day administrative duties
• Able to commit at least three days per week (5 hours/day)

IT

As an IT Support Technician intern you are the go-to person for SNYs' computer hardware and software needs, providing front line user support for all of SNYs' internal tools and technologies.

You are highly technical and are comfortable problem solving across multiple operating systems and devices. You troubleshoot, respond to inquiries and find solutions to technical challenges. You have a passion for sports, technology, computing, and the Internet, and care deeply about helping people. You will use your inquiring, problem-solving mind to dig deep and find the underlying issues to tackle challenges. Beyond the day-to-day, you will contribute to longer-term technical and non-technical projects and documentation efforts that support the people and technology that make SNY happen.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct support for desktops/laptops and user access to corporate network and applications both on the network as well as through remote VPN access
• Assist with moving equipment and users
• Provide direct support for services such as office phones, Android/iPhones/iPads mobile devices, conference rooms and remote access.
• Provide basic corporate network infrastructure and server support
• Provide direct support for SNY's corporate resources and applications

Minimum qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a BS or MS in computer science or a related technical field.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working in an IT department or PC support, or in another technically-focused service environment
• Ability to configure, upgrade and relocate PC hardware, software and print devices
• Experience in basic Microsoft server configuration and support
• Understanding of LAN/WAN environments

Digital

Interns in the department will assist the SNY.tv Digital Media Staff in various production and marketing related initiatives including research, audio/video production, news gathering, editing content for the web site, generating traffic reports for analysis and assisting in the management of sales inventory, creating sales decks and campaign recaps. Interns will be assigned on-going, daily responsibilities as well as stand-alone projects. Requirements and skills are as follows:

• Strong interest in the web, mobile, social media, sports and television
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and creative skills
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; meet deadlines and work as part of a team while also being able to work independently in a fast paced environment
• Possess great organizational skills and has excellent track record for following through on projects
• Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Able to commit at least three days per week (2-5 hours/day)
