Islanders Islanders Notebook

As the Islanders skated around the Nassau Coliseum, not much had changed as far as the team's line combinations. The previous night, head coach Jack Capuano hinted at changing things up for Game 3.

So it came as a bit of a surprise when things looked the same as they did in Game 2.

"That's because you guys were all here," Capuano jokingly said when asked about the practice lines. The fact the lines remained the same doesn't necessarily mean that things won't change at game time on Sunday.

WASHINGTON -- Ryan Strome had a Babe Ruth-esque moment on Wednesday night in the second period of the Islanders' Game 1 win over the Washington Capitals.

Moments before John Tavares won the offensive zone face-off, the pair were discussing?the play when Strome made a bold prediction to the Islander captain. He backed up that statement by scoring off of the draw with a quick wrist shot.

"I'll give him some kudos," Tavares said after practice in Annapolis, Maryland. "We set up the face-off play and he said he was going to score there. If you watched the video he was pretty fired up, but I still think he was the only guy in the building that knew it went in."

With ?back-to-back games scheduled for this weekend, the Islanders will start Michal Neuvirth in Saturday's game against the Anaheim Ducks.

Head coach Jack Capuano made the announcement after Friday's practice at Islanders IceWorks in Syosset. The move was a change from Capuano's usual routine of waiting until game day to announce the starting goaltender. The decision to start Neuvirth Saturday likely means Jaroslav Halak gets the nod on Sunday.

The Islanders haven't been scoring, but goaltending has been strong the last three games.

The Islanders haven't been able to get too many days to rest lately.

They had a very hectic February and wrapped up a four-game road trip Monday only to have a game against the New York Rangers on Tuesday. The last two days have been spent getting some time to regroup as the Isles prepare for pair of games on Friday?and Saturday.

"It was a lot of travel and obviously a lot of games," John Tavares said after practice on Thursday. "It's nice to have a couple of days, so we know we don't play too much hockey the next week and a half or so. We just have to be ready. Just take this time to sharpen up our game and physically get some time to get some rest."

WASHINGTON -- Kael Mouillierat saw 9:07 of ice time in his first NHL on Saturday against the Washington Capitals. When the Islanders host the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday there is a chance Mouillierat gets more ice time.

"I really like the way that he played down low," Islanders head coach Jack Capuano said. "He's not afraid to use his body, came up with a big block in the third period. We knew he was good defensively, but I just liked the way he held on to the puck... He did a lot of good things offensively, so for me tomorrow night I'll give him so more minutes."

The 27-year-old was obviously excited about his first NHL game and was understandably somewhat nervous.

Nick Leddy could smile after playing his former team Saturday night because his new team was the one that came out on top.

The Islander defenseman played 19:28 and had an assist on Kyle Okposo's game tying goal in at 10:10 of the third period. The soft spoken Leddy said the win against the Chicago Blackhawks felt very good.

"It was a fun game playing against my buddies," Leddy said afterwards. "Those guys are great friends to me. It's always good to see them."

Michael Grabner made his season debut on Thursday night in Ottawa.

Islander Head Coach Jack Capuano was overall happy with how the Austrian winger played against the Senators. However, he did feel some aspects of his game could be improved.

"I think Grabner for the most part did some good things," Capuano said. "He made a couple mistakes that he saw this morning. I think you can practice all you want and you can go through the reps all you want, but it?s a little different when you get into a game."

Second straight start, second straight shutout for Jaroslav Halak.

The Islander net minder keep his opponent scoreless for the second game in a row on Tuesday night. A feat that has not been done since Rick DiPietro was patrolling the net back in December of 2006. It was also Halak's 32nd career shutout.

?I always say it?s a team effort,? Halak said about the win Tuesday night. ?They kept the shots low again tonight, the same as last game. They blocked a lot of shots again like the last game. It?s always easier when you have these types of games, when everyone plays well.?

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Anders Lee was happy to be back on Long Island prior to the start of Saturday night's contest prior to the Islanders 7-5 win over Dallas. He was even happier following the contest in which he scored his first goal of the season.

"It's nice," Lee said with a smile talking about the goal. "Anytime you get the first one out of the way it gets the season rolling a little bit, It makes you stop thinking about it, but it was a good play by the boys and I was able to capitalize."

Lee certainly showed why he should have been on the Islanders roster to begin with on Saturday night. The 24-year-old scored the game's opening goal by redirecting a shot from Thomas Hickey. Moments earlier, Lee nearly scored on a similar play. Lee's presence in front of the net was also enough to agitate the Stars on several occasions during the first period.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The Islanders got one of their two injured defenseman back on Thursday, and are close to getting the other one back soon as well.

Calvin de Haan made his season debut against the San Jose Sharks after missing the first three games of the season with an upper body injury. Now, it appears that Lubomir Visnovsky could be close to returning as well. The Islander defenseman has been dealing with back spasms and the team put him on injured reserve on October 7.

Visnovsky skated Thursday during the morning skate.
