Islanders captain John Tavares, who can become a free agent after next season, reiterated how much he wants to have success with the team.
"I think for myself, I've always shown and talked about my commitment here,'' Tavares said Monday, according to Steven Marcus of Newsday. "Wanting to have success here and keep building on some of the good things we've done. Obviously, this [low] point's been disappointing.''
What Tavares said Monday was similar to what he said on Dec. 8 during an interview with Joe and Evan of WFAN.
"Yes, I'd like to be, for sure," he said at the time about remaining with the Islanders long-term. "I try to not think about it a whole lot. Obviously, I'm getting closer to the end of this contract but I've always stated how much I love being in New York and being an Islander, how well people have treated me here and the organization as a whole...
