The Islanders surrendered a lead in the third period for the second straight game tonight in Calgary with a 4-3 loss to the Flames. It was also the second time this week allowing 3+ goals in the third period. After leading 3-1 at the second intermission, Calgary stormed back with three in the third to hand the Islanders a regulation defeat.
Standout rookie Sean Monahan scored his 19th of the year for the Flames sandwiched between two goals from Joe Colborne, his sixth and seventh tallies of the season.
Calgary would get on the board first only two minutes into the game thanks to a short handed goal from Markus Granlund. Goals from Kyle Okposo, Colin McDonald and Brock Nelson brought the Islanders back to a 3-1 advantage heading into the final period. For Okposo, it was his 62nd point in his 66th game continuing a great season. Nelson's goal was his 11th of the year, placing him fifth on the team in that category. Anders Nilsson stopped only 19 of 23 shots.
Next up for the Islanders is the final game of a four-game Canadian road trip. They will be in Vancouver on Monday to play the Canucks at 10pm ET.
