[sny-box]The Least You Should Know About the Avalanche... Colorado is another good Western Conference team, 11 above traditional .500... Matt Duchene has 38 points in 40 games but is still no Tavares... First Overall pick Nathan MacKinnon has 28 points in 43 games... The Avs have the 4th best team save percentage in the NHL... [/sny-box]

Two hot teams meet up tonight in Colorado; the Avs come into tonight's game having won four of five and the Islanders were good for five of their last six. Not only that, but the Isles recent wins have come over teams out west that are over the normal NHL .500 (Chicago, Minnesota).

Colorado is another such team, 11 games over normal .500. They pack quite an offensive punch up front with Duchene, Landeskog, O'Reilly, Stastny and MacKinnon. However, they are a bit banged up. Coach Patrick Roy confirmed earlier that Ryan O'Reilly will sit tonight. He is day-to-day with a shoulder injury. Ex-Isle PA Parenteau will not play against his old team. Parenteau has been sidelined with a knee injury since December 30th. In net, the Avs will start Semyon Varlamov, who has a nice season for them. In 31 starts, he has a .926 SVP and 2.37 GAA.

For the Islanders, it will be back to Kevin Poulin as Evgeni Nabokov is still on injured reserve and cannot be taken off for at least a few more days. Arthur Staple noted that Nabokov did skate today. Matt Donovan and Colin McDonald will also get back into tonight's lineup.

Congratulations to long-time Islanders radio announcer Chris King, who will call the next two games on MSG.
