Mother nature wasn't enough to cancel tonight's Islander-Ranger contest.
The game will be played as scheduled, despite parts of Long Island being pounded with heavy snow. There was some thought that the game could be pushed back to Wednesday. It was confirmed this morning that the game would take place as regularly scheduled.
The Rangers traveled to Long Island on Monday ahead of the storm and practiced at Nassau Coliseum.
The Islanders will start Jaroslav Halak in net. Halak played in Sunday's All-Star game and made six saves on 10 shots in the game for Team Toews. Mikhail Grabovski will also return to the lineup, taking the spot of injured Islander Kyle Okposo.
Okposo will miss the next six to eight weeks due to an upper body injury and was placed on injured reserve this morning retroactively to January 19. Eric Boulton was also placed on IR retroactive to January 17.
This will be both the Islanders' and Rangers' first game back after the NHL All-Star break.
