[sny-box]The Least You Should Know About the Devils... New Jersey won their first game after the break against Columbus 5-2. Adan Henrique score twice and Patrick Elias notched three points... Adam Larsson and Damien Brunner are injured and out today while Bryce Salvador is questionable... [/sny-box]
Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur has played 88 games against the Islanders but today could be the last time the Islanders have to face teh future Hall of Famer. Today's game will be Brodeur's 1454th start in a Devils uniform. Yesterday he spoke as if this was the end of the road.
After today, the Devils have two more games prior to Wednesday's trade deadline and Corey Schneider is likely to start both of them. With much speculation in the air, the 41-year old Brodeur could finally be on the way out of Jersey.
In other news around the NHL, the first major trade of the deadline came to fruition yesterday. Ryan Miller was, at long last, shipped out of Buffalo. He joined teammate Steve Ott heading to St. Louis in exchange for Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, a prospect and third draft picks (1st and 3rd). Those draft picks are for 2015 and 2016 but can be changed to 2014 if Miller leads the Blues to the Conference Finals. You could expect more from Buffalo as well, they could easily turn around and ship Halak out to a team that is in need of a goalie.
The Islanders are quite on the trade front so far, but the trade above shouldn't impact the market for Vanek of MacDonald, as it was centered around the goaltender Miller.
This morning, the Islanders called up Anders Nilsson and sent down Kevin Poulin. I wouldn't expect Nilsson to play; this is probably a move to get Kevin Poulin some playing time. He hasn't played a game since January 27th.
Here's Thursday's lineup, which I would expect to be repeated today:[sny-box]
|Scratches: Martinek, Carkner IR: Tavares, Nielsen|
