[sny-box]The Least You Should Know About the Panthers... Florida trails the Islanders by three points in the standings, making today a tank battle... Florida played in Columbus yesterday, losing 6-3... Tomas Kopecky (concussion) and Aleksander Barkov (knee) are both out after suffering injuries at the Olympics... [/sny-box]
The Islanders will play another matinee at the Coliseum this afternoon and hopefully it won't be the train wreck that yesterday's game was. The Florida Panthers and pseudo ex-Islander Tim Thomas come to town for the 3pm start, and yes, you can expect Thomas to get the start as backup Scott Clemmensen played for the Panthers on Saturday.
In other news , a weird headline out of Buffalo today although it's nearly identical to one we saw on Long Island a few years back; "Pat LaFontaine resigns from Sabres after just four months as President of Hockey Ops."
[sny-box]According to Renaud Lavoie, it's your classic power struggle. These new arrangements in the NHL, with a president of hockey ops and a GM sharing many responsibilities that used to be earmarked for just one guy, aren't always going to work, and this one, between LaFontaine and the GM he just hired, Tim Murray, simply didn't.[/sny-box]
There was an outside shot that Matt Martin and Frans Nielsen could play this weekend, but no news to confirm that as of yet. With a few injured players there aren't too many changes that can be made after the loss (Matt Carkner in?). My hunch is that Nabokov does start today, despite yesterday's yank after the second period. Here's Saturday's lineup:[sny-box]
|Scratches: Martinek, Carkner, Martin IR: Tavares, Nielsen|
