[sny-box]The Least You Should Know About the Flames... Calgary is 2-2 since the Olympic break and is way out in the Western Conference... They are 27th in the NHL, two points behind the Islanders... Jiri Hudler, Dennis Wideman and Matt Stajan are all expected to miss tonight's game...[/sny-box]
For the second game in a row it will be a Battle of Bottom Five Teams in Alberta. The Flames trial the Islanders by two points in the league standings, making tonight a draft battle. Just like the Islanders, Calgary will be without their leading scorer Jiri Hudler. Although Hudler and leading scorer are odd words to pair up.
Anyway, the Flames are having massive problems in goal -- actually probably worse than the Islanders, if you believe that -- and will be starting Joni Ortio tonight. If you're wondering what a Joni Ortio is, he is a sixth round pick from 2009 who made his NHL debut on February 27th. Calgary's Karri Ramo (not very good) is out indefinitely with a sprained MCL, which left Calgary with all of Joey MacDonald in goal. Yes, the former Islander. MacDonald has an .885 save percentage in 7 appearances so Calgary is going with the "anyone else at all" mantra.
For the Islanders, they will also be starting a goalie who has spent most of the year in the AHL, Anders Nilsson. So fair is fair, at least. The lineup will also be the same as it was in Edmonton, with your lines below.
It's playing out the stretch night in Calgary and both teams are planning for next year and evaluating players. As Staple pointed out on twitter, there will be 21 rookies in the combined lineups tonight. 14 for Calgary and seven for the Islanders.[sny-box]
