The Islanders, for the second straight night, come out flat and get blown out of Toronto, losing to the Leafs, 5-0.
This one really wasn't in doubt from the opening twenty minutes as the Leafs speed and discipline allowed them to take a 2-0 lead they would never come close to relinquishing. Mathew Barzal probably had his worst game as a pro and the team continued to play zero defense, allowing 50 shots and 85 attempts.
With such a dependence on a young and inexperienced blueline compounded by injuries to Calvin de Haan and Johnny Boychuk, in addition to Nick Leddy going through, arguably, the worst stretch of his Islanders career, New York is outgunned and outmanned on most nights and just don't have an answer.
With the trade deadline four weeks away, but prices over-the-top expensive, Garth Snow must do something -- anything -- in an attempt to right this ship before it's too late. For them and possibly him as well. Even if it means upgrading the third and fourth lines, which have produced nothing pretty much all season.
The Islanders host the Blue Jackets at Barclays Center on Saturday at 7 p.m.
