Now Commenting On:

This afternoon in Mineola, each of the four groups that have submitted proposals to Nassau County regarding a renovated Coliseum are presenting their case to the public. Brett Yormark, Barclays Center and Brooklyn Nets CEO, was one of the presenters for a group headed by Bruce Ratner's Forest City Ratner Company that is trying to win the project. The group's presentation brought out rapper Jay-Z, which created a quote we never though we'd see from Bruce Ratner; "Jay-Z is showing his commitment to a new Nassau."

But the interesting point to note is that Yormark's plan includes the Islanders playing six games per season at the Coliseum after the team moves to Brooklyn. Yormark also said that they have commitments from "100 other events" that they could place in the Coliseum, and the proposal outlines the remodeled arena as seating 13,000, down from the current 16,000+. Now that the Islanders and Yormark's group are partners in Brooklyn, and they can control things like where the team plays and have deep connections to other events, it's a big bargaining chip in their pursuit to try and win the rights to developing the Coliseum.

The meeting is currently on going as other groups are making their presentations. The three other groups bidding on the Coliseum include a MSG-based group, New York Sports LLC headed by Bernie Sherick, and Syosset-based developed Ed Blumenfeld working with SMG.
