"I thought it was a good practice," Islanders' Head Coach Jack Capuano said. "Our guys work hard. We've talked about it since day one about making sure that we come out with a purpose everyday and it was a good skate today, with a real good pace. We've done that, so we just have to clean up a few areas of our game there."
New York's previous two games have been clunkers against Western Conference opponents, but six of the Islanders next eight games will be against divisional opponents. They can ill-afford to allow points to slip away against teams in the Metro.
Lubomir Visnovsky was not on the ice for the Isles' practice, but Josh Bailey was. He missed the previous game due to an ailment and Capuano was not sure if Bailey would be ready to play against the Devils.
"We never want to play a guy that is 70 percent or 60 percent if we have healthy bodies. That's the one thing I don't want to do," Capuano said.
The Islanders' Coach also made some tweaks to the lines by most notably moving Mikhail Grabovski to the top line. Below are the Islanders' lines from Thursday's practice:
Mikhail Grabovski - John Tavares - Kyle Okposo
Michael Grabner - Brock Nelson - Nikolay Kulemin/ Josh Bailey
Anders Lee - Frans Nielsen - Ryan Strome
Matt Martin - Casey Cizikas - Cal Clutterbuck
