The Bruins host the Senators in Boston tonight at 7pm (NBCSN), a makeup for a game that was originally cancelled after the marathon bombings. Depending on the outcome, the Islanders will either play the Bruins or the Penguins in the first round of the playoffs.
If the Bruins win in regulation, they will become the second seed and the Islanders will hold onto the seventh position. The Bruins and Islanders would play each other in the first round.
If anything else happens -- any scenario where the Senators earn at least one point -- the Senators will move up to seventh. They own the tiebreakers against the Islanders, and the Islanders would fall to eighth and play the Penguins in the first round.
As it just so happens, this is the 20th anniversary of the Islanders' last playoff series win against Pittsburgh.
