Last night on TSN's Insider Trading segment, Darren Dreger said that the Islanders, along with the Canucks and the Oilers are the most active teams in trade discussions.Dreger says that the Islanders are looking for depth in goal and a defenseman.Earlier in the week, he reported that the Islanders were one of a few teams interested in Toronto Maple Leafs defender Jake Gardiner (others were Carolina and Calgary). Gardiner is 23 years old, a 17th overall pick of the Ducks in 2008, and has 40 points in 114 career NHL games with the Maple Leafs. In 27 games this season, Gardiner also ranks second on the Maple Leafs in Corsi, behind only David Clarkson.According to Dreger, the price the Leafs were asking for Gardiner was "a top-six forward."Earlier today on Twitter, Chris Botta tweeted that the Islanders are indeed still in "buy mode" and are not interested in selling off their veterans/free agents-to-be despite the current tailspin.Botta said that "GMs have started to check in with Snow [regarding]: Vanek, Nabokov, AMac. They're not available yet. Garth looking to add pieces."He also noted that the Islanders and Panthers have been scouting each other recently. The Panthers are one of three teams below the Islanders in standings points.
