Islanders defenseman Calvin de Haan filed for arbitration on Wednesday, the NHLPA announced.
Newsday's Arthur Staple reports the Islanders and de Haan are having discussions about a new deal.
De Haan, a restricted free agent, had five goals and 20 assists in 82 games in 2016-17. He just completed a three-year contract with an average annual value of $1,966,668.
The Islanders also announced they signed fifth-round pick Sebastian Aho to a three-year, entry level contact. The 21-year-old blue liner recorded 30 points in 50 games in the Swedish Hockey League last season.
