There was essentially one highlight of this game from an Islanders perspective, and it came in the first two minutes when Anders Lee scored. That was it. The rest was really ugly.
I sound like a broken record, but it this simple: The Islanders will just not be a playoff team if they don't improve their defense. Through two periods, the Isles had surrendered 84 shots on net in their last five periods of hockey. That's pathetic. If Garth doesn't go out and upgrade, this is going to end up being one of the most frustrating seasons to watch this team in a long time because of the massive potential it has. But they need reinforcements.
Will this be the straw that broke the camel's back? Will this finally be the one that acts as an impetus for Garth to pull the trigger? Maybe. And if so, it's the only good that would come out of this Tuesday evening in Brooklyn.
The Islanders host the Boston Bruins on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Barclays Center.
