Former Islander, and current Sabres forward, Kyle Okposo is excited for the opportunity to play against his old team for the first time this week, he told Newsday's Arthur Staple.
After spending eight-plus seasons with the Islanders, Okposo left for the Sabres in the offseason, signing a seven-year deal with Buffalo. Okposo's Sabres will host the Islanders on Friday night and travel to Barclays Center on Dec. 23.
"There's going to be a lot of different emotions running through me, I'm sure," Okposo said, according to Staple. "It'll be a little easier seeing them first up here, but the trip back down to Brooklyn is going to be different, to say the least."
Okposo, with nine goals and 12 assists in 27 games this season, said it's difficult to watch the Islanders go through the ups and downs that they've had.
"There's no satisfaction at all in seeing your buddies go through a tough spell," Okposo said of the Isles' lousy season. "I figured there could be some growing pains with the three of us [Okposo, Frans Nielsen and Matt Martin] leaving. I feel like we were a big part of that room."
