Well, that was brutal. I wouldn't blame any Islanders fan if they didn't want to see the Dallas Stars again any time soon. After the 5-0 thrashing the Stars gave them in Dallas last month, this was another blow out that didn't make anyone look particularly good.
This game really turned when Dallas scored their second goal. The Isles had tons of pressure, but couldn't get anything past Kari Lehtonen. Alexander Radulov came down and got one past Jaro Halak, and it really swung the arc of the entire game.
To say the Isles need to improve either the goaltending or the defense in front of them to make sure they stay in this Metropolitan race is obvious. But with the emergence of Mat Barzal, which really makes the offense elite, it presents a true window of contention for this team. It's time to go for it, and I think if they can go out and acquire a top-four defenseman, the goaltenders at going to look a lot better. Those kind of players are hard to come by, so it won't be easy, but it's necessary.
On to the next one, and in this case, it's a big divisional game in Columbus. The Isles can't let this one linger, so let's hope Doug Weight can get everyone ready to bounce back tomorrow evening.
What's next: The Islanders travel to Nationwide Arena to meet the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday at 7 p.m.
