As usual, Tavares opened the scoring for the Islanders this season, roofing one off a pretty set up from Jordan Eberle. Obviously, there wasn't much to speak of on Friday night, but Saturday's performance by the first line certainly had me encouraged by what's possible. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more than our fair share of highlight reel goals from these guys, and JT's opening salvo was the first of many.
I suspect Josh Ho-Sang won't be out of the lineup for awhile. Ho-Sang was flying all night, burning out of the box to negate an icing and assisted on Josh Bailey's goal, the Isles' third in the span of just over a minute-and-a-half. Then, Ho-Sang nearly set up Casey Cizikas just before Anthony Beauvillier buried a rebound to make it 5-2. Ho-Sang gives the Isles a whole other dimension, and he needs to be in the lineup every single night.
Obviously, a very big night for the PK unit, with two short handed goals to go along with a perfect evening. I think they did a great job of being aggressive and taking away the shooting lanes, and they were aided by a couple of big stops by Jaro Halak on the final kill of the game. On a night where the power play looked brutal, the PK picked them up, and it helped the Isles grab two points inside the conference in their home opener.
The Islanders will host the Blues on Monday at 1 p.m.
