His agent, Bill Zito, confirmed that Thomas has expressed interest in seeing which teams might want to sign the 39-year-old goalie. However, he’s going to wait and see what his options are before officially deciding whether to come back to the NHL or not.
The two-time Vezina Trophy winner signed with the Islanders back in February. While it was clear that he never intended to actually play for the team, his salary helped the Islanders reach the cap floor without ever having to pay him.
According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Islanders do not have the rights to Thomas as they are not tolling his contract for another season.
