Today the Islanders will look to snap a seven-game home losing streak and end a skid that has dropped the team to third in the division.
The Detroit Red Wings (40-22-12) are third in the Metropolitan Division and are coming off a 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lighting on Saturday. They are also 2-2-1 in their last five outings.
Today will be the final set of the back-to-back games for the Red Wings, while the Islanders have one remaining in the final week of the season. Islanders Head Coach Jack Capuano has said in the past that he likes having back-to-back contests.
He reiterated that today before the game.
"I think any time you go through a stretch like this the guys want to get right back at it," Capuano said. "We're playing another good hockey team here coming off another big win last night. If you want to get where you want to go you have to beat good teams. this another good test for us."
Capuano said the same players that played on Saturday will be in the lineup Sunday, though the lines could be mixed up today. Jaroslav Halak will start in net for the Isles.
Peter Mrazek will start for the Detroit Red Wings.
