DETROIT -- Saturday night's game could be center John Tavares' last with the New York Islanders.
The Islanders visit the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena in the final game of the regular season for both teams, who find themselves out of the NHL Playoffs.
Tavares, the 27-year-old Islanders captain, has 36 goals and 47 assists for 83 points this season. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and has been the focal point of the organization since he was the first overall pick in the 2009 draft.
"I'm not trying to look at it as the end because, obviously, that hasn't been determined," Tavares said after Thursday night's 2-1 win over the New York Rangers at the Barclays Center. "I've always wanted it to work out and stay, so that's still what I hope transpires. But, obviously, that will come in the time ahead." >> Read more
