Tonight will be the final time the Sabres and Isles meet this season. The Islanders are 1-0-1 against Buffalo this season, having lost in overtime in December and winning 3-2 in February. The Sabres have won two of their last three games and Brian Gionta has scored eight points in the last 10 outings.
Buffalo will start Andrey Markarov in net tonight, which will be his NHL debut.
"I'm very curious to see [what he can do]," Sabres Coach Ted Nolan said before the game. "Last time we played him, he played the game in Toronto. I thought he was very good. Last game in the American league, too, he played a good game."
Matt Moulson and Mike Webber will not be dressed for Buffalo due to illness and injury, respectively.
The Islanders will start Jaroslav Halak in net and the lineup will remain the same as it was in Columbus. The Islanders fell 4-3 to the Blue Jackets in the shootout that game.
There is an opportunity for the Islanders to clinch a playoff spot, but they will need to beat a competitive Sabres team that cannot be taken lightly.
"They're playing pretty good hockey right now," Anders Lee said about the Sabres. "They're going to come in -- they're playing a back-to-back -- and we're going to have to play a simple game. They're going to come out and play hard, so it will be a good challenge for us."
The Islanders will also need some help from Washington -- who must beat Ottawa in regulation -- to clinch a playoff spot.
