Now Commenting On:

A wild game in Bridgeport today, as the Sound Tigers won 6-5 over the Syracuse Crunch. But that wasn't really the wild part of this one; it was top prospects Ryan Strome and Anders Lee getting fighting majors and ejections at the end of the third period.Full clip is below, but here's what happened. Not sure if there's some context we're missing, but everything starts just prior to the 5-to-go mark of the third period when Mike Halmo, winger on Bridgeport's top line with Strome and Lee, leveled Syracuse's Cedric Paquette at the blueline. The hit looks really bad initially, the Paquette's stick goes flying and it looks like he's out cold (but gets back up momentarily and stays in the game). Halmo may have caught him up high. But anyway, Syracuse, as hockey players do, take exception and charged Halmo. Lee gets tied up as well and gets a fighting major and ejection for his trouble. For what it's worth, Halmo got a roughing penalty earlier in the game, so maybe they took exception to something that wasn't a one-off.Here's where it goes overboard. After taking a few minutes sorting everything out, somehow the Sound Tigers ended up with a power play. On said power play, John Persson scores his third of the game to put Bridgeport ahead 6-5 and Strome grabs the puck for Persson. Everyone skates back to the bench, normal stuff... and then they get jumped, specifically Strome by Paquette. Not really sure what the reasoning is, maybe retribution for the Halmo hit? I'd imagine Mike Fornabaio will be able to fill us in later...Here's the video of the whole mess (also Phil Giubileo, Bridgeport's play-by-play man is in excellent form; "That's just the hit of the game, not the replay of the fight. I don't want to see that!"):
