1/25/18 | 6:09PM: Alain Vigneault said on Thursday:

  • On JT Miller, "he was fine, skated yesterday, had a very professional attitude. Today he came in and is focused and we turn the page and move on and get ready for tonight. We need a win and that is what we are focused on."
  • What do you need to see from JT, "JT does a lot of good things on the ice but sometimes he puts himself in a little bit of trouble with decisions with the puck. He needs to take the high percentage road and he will be in good shape."

3:57PM: JT Miller spoke after the morning skate on Thursday and said (NYR):

  • "There is no point in sitting back and feeling bad for myself. I know my play needs to be elevated and I think my response tonight needs to be a strong effort. I am focused on today, not two days ago. The team needs to have a good game and I think that when I am playing well it helps."
  • What did you take out of being benched, "need to elevate my game. You can X it and O it all you want and I think I evaluate myself pretty fairly and I know that it's not good enough. I'm not surprised by what happened, I am ready to play and move on. Just ready to play with a strong effort and the way that I know how."
  • On how he dealt with it, "at that point you just want the team to win. I thought the guys played a pretty good game, put up a lot of shots, had good looks. The game isn't about me, can't be a distraction, gotta be a good teammate and move forward."
  • "I just gotta play to my strengths and skating and being physical. I gotta get in on the forecheck and hitting people. Can't look to make plays all the time, gotta shoot the puck and move your feet. It's so simple, really, at the end of the day."
  • "It's not rocket science, just gotta stay with my game, make a play when it's there and play physical and be heavy. You gotta make plays when they are there, you can't force it or try to make a play up. You can't try to force things, tried to twice and it ended up in the back of the net both times."

1/24/18 | Last night against Anaheim, JT Miller was benched for the final 41 minutes after committing a turnover that led to Anaheim's fourth goal.

JT Miller has spent this past season switching between center and wing and Alain Vigneault said that one of the things the Rangers like most about JT is his "versatility."

Miller was listed by a forward in the Central Division as one of the more underrated players in the league, saying "I was just watching one of their games, though, and I think he's come into his own this season. Solid player." (ESPN)

JT Miller spoke on MSG after the game and said:

  • On his winner, "I went back to get some speed, that is first, and they gave me more room than I thought to go to the net. That shot there doesn't go in very often so I got lucky that it found a hole."
  • More on the winner, "I know I have to get it up in that situation and that going side to side he is probably leaning a little bit. Definitely going up, like I said, it's not all the time that that one gets to go in but it's a good win for the team."
  • On the compete level, "coming into this building, we understand the opponent and the players they have, we had to bring it tonight. I think we did that off the start, our first period was really good. They had a push in the second and then all of the penalties and weird stuff in the third. We came in here to get a job done and we got two points against one of the best teams, if not the best, team in the league."
  • On what this win means, "we knew how to play all along. We were doing a lot of good things even when it wasn't going well and we put it together for a stretch feels good. We will enjoy tonight and another good test for us in a couple of days."

Alain Vigneault said on Thursday that he thinks JT Miller is more effective on the wing and that Miller lprefers to play on the wing.

Miller was skating at practice today with David Desharnais and Jimmy Vesey.

Miller saw time at center in parts of the Rangers previous three games and said that he was feeling comfortable in the middle but had to make some adjustments.

Last season Alain Vigneault was asked about possibly being harder on JT Miller than on other players and said that when he was in Vancouver he was harder on the Sedin twins than he was on anyone else.

Vigneault said, "when you see guys that have potential you want to help them deliver that potential. There is a lot of potential there and trying to work with him, and he's trying to work with me and the coaches to try and become the best player that he can be."

Miller told Dan Rosen of NHL.com that he is happy that Vigneault has been hard on him in their time together and that he still is.
