Jarome Iginla

I got a lot of postgame info last night. Most of it I used in Postgame Thoughts, yet some spilled over into today.

Here are some leftovers from the Devils' 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

For whatever reason, the arena seemed exceedingly quiet until Travis Zajac's second-period goal.

The Devils obviously will not be playing postseason hockey this year.

Yet, somehow they still managed to claim the season series from the Eastern Conference's top team.

New Jersey came from 2-0 down to send its home crowd out with a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night at Prudential Center.

With the Devils in a serious tailspin, SNYDevils contributor Pat Pickens emailed me this morning with a simple question: Do you think the Devils are in trouble? He doesn't think they are, but I disagree. What follows is an actual email exchange between Pat and I discussing the state of the Devils, how they can fix it and whether they should blow up the system and go for a Stanley Cup this season.

According to Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the Penguins may look to trade one of their young defensemen for a player who can have a bigger impact on the team this season.

Rossi notes that the Columbus Blue Jackets had three high ranking members of their organization watching the Penguins last night and thinks that the Penguins could target defenseman Jack Johnson as they look to sure up their defense.

Johnson is reportedly good friends with Sidney Crosby.

As we hit the end of the shortened NHL season's first period, the word "trade" will quickly enter our vernacular.

For Devils fans -- with Andrei Loktionov and Alex Ponikarovsky's acquisitions-- the trade word has already entered your lexicon. And though the trade deadline is still 45 days away, a blockbuster involving the Devils is not out of the question.

So here's the question: should the Devils get in on the Jarome Iginla sweepstakes.

In the Daily News, Filip Bondy writes that the Rangers top priority next season is to add more scoring to a team that was severely lacking in it during the playoffs.

They need more firepower than Richards and Marion Gaborik. In the 1994 playoffs, Messier collected 30 points on 12 goals and 18 assists in 23 games. Richards and Gaborik combined for 11 goals, 26 points, together.
The Rangers averaged 2.15 goals for during the playoffs.
