In the Edmonton Journal, Jim Matheson writes that Glen Sather never forgets a face and with his signing of Jason Arnott he is following a path he took with the Oilers in bringing in players that previously played under him.

Matheson says that Arnott lost his way with the fans and pressure turned to move him.

On moving Arnott, Sather said at the time ''This is a trade we had to make. There was pressure from the community, the media and most of all pressure that Jason brought on himself. It was a situation that he couldn't seem to get out of.''

As I wrote on Twitter, I think this is a goodmove for the Rangers. Their bottom six was pretty depleted during the offseason and Arnott can give them solid minutes on the third or fourth line and provides them with good veteran depth. You know -- that doesn't sound too far from what the Devils could use. Just saying.

In the Ottawa Sun, Bruce Garrioch writes that role players are suffering during the CBA negotiations and most teams have put a freeze of bringing in new players.

Garrioch writes "Many looking for work are guys who are third- or fourth- liners or sixth and seventh defencemen that teams can bring in for depth."

He adds "Right now, teams don't want to spend unnecessary money because GMs aren't even sure there is going to be a salary floor in the new CBA. The players available aren't going to be holding out for big money."

Adam Rotter: To me, Shane Doan is a luxury and not a necessity in the way that Rick Nash, or improving the scoring, was. Doan would make the Rangers a very deep team and basically add a second Ryan Callahan to the lineup. The only issues with Doan would be contract related both in terms of cap hit and length.

At The Hockey News, Ken Campbell writes that if Jason Arnott, who turns 38 this season, is willing to sign for the same money that he did in St. Louis $2.875 million, he could be one of the "steals of the summer."

He writes that while Arnott is no longer the 30 goal scorer he was in the past "He?s good on faceoffs, still has a lethal shot and can play on the power play."

Campbell adds "He would be a good pickup for a team looking for a third-line center who can move up and down the depth chart as needs change."

According to the Vancouver Sun there the Canucks and and Jason Arnott have held preliminary talks and Arnott's agent said "There seems to be some mutual interest."

The paper notes though that the Canucks won't look to sign Arnott until the Shane Doan situation is resolved and that if they do sign Doan, they are unlikely to sign Arnott.

On Arnott, the paper says that he is the kind of player the Canucks want to add "Arnott does seem to fit the mold for what the Canucks are looking for in a third-line centre. He has good size ? 6-5 and 220 pounds ? and is still capable of chipping in some offence. In 72 games last season with the St. Louis Blues, Arnott had 17 goals and 34 points."

According to Rich Chere of NJ.com, Devils center Jason Arnott could ask the team to trade him on Sunday night.

Arnott has a NTC but the Devils are on a 16-1-2 run which has them nine points back of eighth place and in 13th place in the conference.

..As great as the Devils have been, they need to play this way the rest of the season to get into the playoffs and that is just a little unlikely. I think the Devils could get a nice return for Arnott especially since the market for centers isn't that hot. A team looking for a veteran leader to help guide a team in the playoffs could do a lot worse than Arnott.
