Update, 8:17 p.m.: Agent Scott Boras told Tyler Kepner of the New York Times that at Matt Harvey's request, he spoke to Dr. James Andrews Saturday.. "We're going to try to work out a plan so Matt can pitch. There have to be restrictions on it, but we're going to try to do that." (Sept. 5).

But Boras remained steadfast on the topic of inning limits for pitchers coming off Tommy John surgery, referring to the Nationals' Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmerman. "We're not pulling this out of thin air".

Matthew Cerrone: The Mets are flirting with disaster.?Their?starting pitching is great. The offense is good enough. The bench is fine. However, the bullpen is this team's Achilles heel. I've lived through this before. 2007. 2008. I watched spot starts back fire and a bullpen totally implode, night after night, as a division lead and playoff appearances evaporated.

I don't want to watch that show again in 2015...

Matthew Cerrone: Yes, the Mets need to improve the bullpen, because they're skating these?guys out on thin ice. But, I don't think they need to trade prospects to be better. They have enough talent to do it internally...

In the next month or so, the bullpen should again include?Bobby Parnell, Vic Black, Rafael Montero and Jenrry Mejia, with?Jerry Blevins expected back during August. In the minors, Zack Thornton, Logan Verrett and?Duane Below all can be called upon, if needed. And, in more selective, less high leverage situations, I think Hansel Robles and Erik Goeddel can be very, very good.

The point is, I just listed nine guys that other teams would have interest in, let alone four?guys with successful track records,?all of which will be or are available to the Mets right now without trading anyone.

Matthew Cerrone: The Mets are 8-1 against the Phillies in 2015, but just 19-20 against everyone else.

"So what," I say, what does it matter? If it indicates anything, it suggests the Mets may not be as?strong of a team as we think. But, again, what's the difference? Strength of schedule, run differential, power rankings, etc., they all have their purpose. However, in the end, all that matters is the team's actual record, wins and losses. If the Mets win 88 games and grab the last Wild Card spot, it's not like they're disqualified if 15 of those wins were against one team.

"You?ve got to win games you?re supposed to win,? Terry Collins added after Wednesday's victory. ?It helps we are as familiar with the Phillies as we are.?

The Mets (20-15) had a 5-1 lead, but lost to the Cubs, 6-5, on Thursday afternoon at Wrigley Field, resulting in their first series sweep of the season. They?have now lost four in a row, five of their last seven, and they?re 7-12 since their 11-game winning streak in April.

In his talk with reporters after the game, Terry Collins said he needs his veteran hitters to rise to the challenge and begin playing better.

"To be honest, that's why some of those big guys are out there," Collins said. "This is when they need to step up. This is when the Michael Cuddyers and the Daniel Murphys need to step up. ...?We?re very, very young right now. These guys are struggling a little bit. One of the things you?ll see in a situation like this is these guys think they?re hurting the club and we can?t have that."

According to multiple reports, the Mets remain?undecided about whether to place a posting bid on 28-year-old So. Korean SS?Jeong-ho Kang, who will be posted by his team today?(Rosenthal, Dec. 13).

Matthew Cerrone: Sandy Alderson has shown a reluctance to give multi-year deals to guys with big-league track records at positions he says he wants to fill. So, why all of a sudden is he going to bid on -- and negotiate -- for a guy with zero big-league experience, who may or may not stick as a shortstop, who scouts all seem to be split on, who will cost a multimillion, multi-year deal? It just doesn't add up to me. So, my hunch is the Mets make a low-ball bid and negotiate if they can. If it works out for them, great; if not, they won't lose sleep...
