Although the Raiders are considered the favorites to land Jim Harbaugh should he leave San Francisco this off season, the Jets are monitoring his situation as well (Schefter, Nov. 30).

Reports of monitoring?Harbaugh are the first acknowledgement that the Jets are willing to part ways with head coach?Rex Ryan?(Cimini, Nov. 30).

Like Rex Ryan Jim Harbaugh is a polarizing figure, but maybe for extremely different reasons. ?Harbaugh has proven to be a successful coach?and has proven that he is something of a quarterback whisperer. ?Harbuagh?groomed Andrew Luck at Stanford, then took?Alex Smith off the garbage heap before?having?some read-option success with Colin Kaepernick before Kaep has?plummeted from the skies as he's shown an inability to mature as a passer,?seeing ghosts and not understanding how to read his routes or anticipate where the route concept will put a man open.

Muhammad Wilkerson will not require surgery on his left big toe (Costello, Nov. 29).

Wilkerson is suffering from what is known as turf-toe. There were initial concerns that the injury may be severe enough to require season ending surgery.

Although he hasn't been officially ruled out for Monday nights game, it is all but assumed considering he remains in a walking boot. Wilkerson hasn't missed a game since joining the Jets in 2011.

While Nick Folk was kicking the laces off the football this season, the rest of the Jets special teams wasn't all that special. ?ESPN NY's Rich Cimini wrote that .... ESPN.com - New York Jets
For the first time since 2001, the New York Jets didn't return a punt or kickoff for a touchdown. The special teams lacked explosiveness under first-year coordinator Ben Kotwica, who replaced the venerable Mike Westhoff.

There was a decline in production for the punt- and kickoff-return units, perhaps because they cut top kickoff returner Joe McKnight in the preseason. Things started to perk up with Josh Cribbs around midseason, but they fell off again when he suffered a season-ending pectoral injury.

The return game is never about one man. ?While teams need a speedy returning with vision, they also need their blockers to set them up for success and a coordinator who can scheme those returners to daylight. ?Kotwica was stuck with a special teams group that was limited when it comes to their talent level, but that should get better in 2014 by virtue of the additions that the team will make to the overall talent level.
