The Jets head into a big game this Sunday against the Raiders riding their first winning streak of the season, having just beaten the Giants and Redskins in back-to-back weekends.
A big part of the turn around in play has come from quarterback Sam Darnold, who has played much better for the Jets after a rough three-game stretch coming off the team's first win over the Cowboys in Week 6.
"He's done a good job of just focusing one week at a time," head coach Adam Gase said about Darnold. "If something bad happened the week before, that's really the focus for him has been, fix it, make sure it doesn't happen again or try to avoid that same mistake twice. He does do a really good job of resetting...once we start talking about the next team, he just puts it in the past and doesn't dwell on it."
From Weeks 7-9, Darnold threw 59-of-101 for 564 yards, just three touchdowns and eight interceptions, in games that all resulted in very bad losses.
But in the last two weeks, Darnold has given the team some much improved numbers, throwing 19-of-30 in both games and combining for 523 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception.
"We were focused on: it's the first year of the program, improving every week, making sure we're learning the little ins and outs of, whether it be the offense, defense or special teams. So it was critical for him, being a second year player. It's all about improvement, it's all about learning this game and seeing the looks and going through the good experiences, the bad experiences, building off of all those," Gase said.
"He's done a good job with it, he's kept a small focus and just worries about one week at a time."
A big help to Darnold and this offense as a whole has been the addition of Demaryius Thomas, who the Jets made a team captain last week.
"Him being in this offense, him being able to kind of explain to guys how it should look, how you should operate, how you should practice, all those types of things, it's helpful," Gase said on Thomas.
"I think it's been beneficial to the wide receiver room, it's been beneficial to obviously Sam, just kind of hearing him talk about how things have operated in the past. Him being here has really helped us."
