The soundbites of both Smith and Vick have been pored over ad nauseum, but what does the rookie quarterback who is likely to sit behind both players think about the situation?
Tajh Boyd, the Jets third pick of the sixth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, gave his opinion on the matter Friday in California at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere and gave an answer similar to that of offensive head Marty Mornhinweg.
"Geno has been pretty much ... he's been the offense," Boyd told NFL.com's Around The League at the rookie event. "You know, right now, it's his team. But, I mean, at the end of the day, you want to go out there and do everything that's possible to win.
Boyd confirmed that as of now the starting spot was Geno's ... at least at present.
"If Geno gives us the best chance to win, he's going to start. If Mike gives us the best chance to win, he'll start."
This is nothing that we didn't already know but it is good to get a player who is in the meeting room's take on the matter. The Jets will play the best player and right now the team wants and hopes that player is Smith. Over the long-term, letting Geno continue to play and become a better NFL quarterback would be the best thing. But if Geno can't hold onto the football since they have Vick the team at the very least has a viable option should they need to make a change.
