Here's the best list we can find of who's where that is current within a week, and here's some recent cuts on NFL.com. The names are -- as you would expect in late August prior to cutdowns -- titans of underwhelmitude.
Jeez, is Kellen Clemens not available? Oh right, he's busy getting blasted on TV by Bernie Kosar.
NFL.com's Gil Brandt said Sunday morning on SiriusXM NFL Radio that the New York Jets will also work out Matt Leinart and John Beck, per the show's co-host, Ralph Vacchiano.Underscored by this tweet:
Blargh, I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. But hey, take heart, this might not be entirely true.
So, they are likely setting up a workout with John Beck and Mark Sanchez's USC Predecessor of NFL Mediocrity might still be in the mix at some later point. I think I threw up a little in my mouth again.
The bottom line is there's very little help out there for the Jets via free agency and even if they do find a player, there's not a lot of time left to sync that potential talent up with the offense quickly.
If the Jets are serious about getting appreciably better at the QB spot (outside of Geno Smith maturing very quickly or Mark Sanchez getting healthy while simultaneously forgetting all his bad habits) the simple truth is that it might have to come through a trade, or scouring the leavings once cutdowns begin.
