Now Commenting On:

Friend of the blog Tony Pauline had some interesting Jets news to post on Walter Football that he learned at the Combine regarding the Jets, here's some of the juicier bits:

RT Austin Howard and Jets working on contract [Walter Football]

The Jets met with Howard's representatives in Indy and according to Pauline, the deal could look a lot like Phil Loadholt's deal from a year ago with the Vikings.   Loadholt receved a deal that guaranteed $7 million on the front end and then had a backloaded salary structure (working up from $2.9 million to 5.4 million) over the course of the deal.  If this is the move the Jets make, then this is a solid contract for the Jets which allows them to start seeing even marginal cap savings in the second year if they want to walk away, or make other moves that would allow them to keep Howard as a starter (on the interior) while upgrading the tackle spot through the draft in future years.

OLB Calvin Pace's agents met with Jets [Walter Football]

It's hard to say where this will go.  Pace is coming off a 10 sack season and has expressed his desire to come back, but is he interested in coming back at the cost of testing free agency to see if there is more money out there for him?  There is a lot of built up good will between both sides so don't be surprised both agree to test free agency before coming to a contract.
