The Jets also worked out several players this week, presumably with a view to consideration for a futures deal after the season. These included DE Jake McDonough as well as WR Thomas Mayo, OL Nick McDonald, OL Ryan Miller, CB DeMarcus Van Dyke and CB Brandon Burton per Brian Costello of the New York Post.
The speedster Jones is an interesting story who made a name for himself with the Texans last year, before mysteriously quitting the team. (EDIT: Apparently he left the team to be with his infant son, who was suffering from a lung disease and sadly passed away in June).
As for the other players the Jets worked out, Mayo and McDonough were both outside shots to make the roster in camp this summer, but each of them got injured. Evidently the Jets had been keeping tabs on both.
As for the rest, Burton played five games with the Bills earlier this year, recording six tackles and a pass defensed. Van Dyke played a significant role with the Raiders in his rookie year (2011), but has played only sparingly with the Steelers over the past two seasons. Miller spent eight games on the Browns active roster last year but did not play. Finally, McDonald started three games with the Patriots over the past few years, but hasn't been with a team this season.
