Pouha struggled to stay healthy in 2012, and at age 34 it is going to become increasingly hard for him to stay healthy. The Jets probably tried to restructure the deal, but this will save the team $3.8 million with a cap hit of about $2.3 million. Pouha's back was a concern during camp, early in the season and then even in some of the early games that he was able to play. Pouha had a tough time playing with the injury. Wilkerson flourished once Pouha started playing better, so the Jets might have some other moves to make to bolster the group around Wilkerson and Coples.
It's hard to imagine that Kenrick Ellis is ready to step into the starting role, so bringing back a player like Mike DeVito might be all the more important if the Jets don't re-sign Pouha to a cap-friendly deal.
