An MRI Monday revealed that Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland has a dislocated right hand and will miss Sunday's game against Miami. He vowed to be back Nov. 11 after the Week 9 bye.Cumberland saw more targets earlier in the season when Dustin Keller was injured, so while it would be better to have Cumberland than not, the Jets aren't necessarily going to miss him in the passing game right now. Of course, Cumberland was doing some work in the backfield as an extra blocker in recent weeks, so the Jets might look to move their roster around and get another blocker up for a "double chin-strap" game against the Dolphins next week.
Cumberland said his hand hit the helmet of a Patriot during a Jets kickoff return in the first quarter of the 29-26 overtime loss to New England on Sunday. Cumberland posted a picture online of his swollen right hand, sans the cast he now is wearing. "Thank the Lord it's not broke and I'll be OK," he wrote.
With the Jets offense in flux much of the season, the last thing they need is more injuries, but it looks like the Jets will be without Jeff Cumberland for the next game. After leaving the game Sunday with an injury, an MRI has shown that Cumby has a dislocated right hand, but he fully expects to return after the bye according to Newsday.
