Bent, theJetsBlog.com: This isn't the first time we've heard how respected David Harris is within the Jets locker room. That doesn't seem to change no matter who his teammates are and obviously isn't just a product of Rex Ryan's overhyping since it's still happening with Ryan gone.
While fans sometimes feel that Harris has lost a step and is poor in coverage he's off to a solid start this year with PFF grading him out as the top inside linebacker in the NFL through three games in terms of overall grade and in coverage. Can Harris keep this up though? Back in 2013, he was also their top rated inside linebacker after three games, but ended up just 18th by the end of the season.
Whatever happens, he'll retain the admiration of his teammates. Eyebrows were raised when Harris re-signed with the Jets for $7 million per season back in March, but he was obviously a priority and - much like with D'Brickashaw Ferguson on the other side of the ball - his quiet leadership and reliability is obviously more important to the team than we sometimes realize. It would be good to see the likes of Harris get a chance to play for a contender again, so hopefully the team can bounce back from Sunday's loss and get back to the way they played in the first two games.
