Bent, theJetsBlog.com: Henderson is a great story and it's great for him that he's managed to overcome some personal demons to make it onto the Jets' roster, especially since the odds were against him as he missed time due to injuries.
However, I'm not sure exactly what to expect from Henderson. While it's good to have a back-up with plenty of starting experience at the NFL level for the first time in a long time, I feel like we should temper our expectations. Some people are assuming that Henderson would be an automatic upgrade in coverage, but he lacks agility and his coverage numbers were poor in the Vikings Tampa-2 style system. Also, there's an expectation that he will contribute on special teams, but - while he was a good special teams contributor when he was young - he didn't have any special teams tackles in his last three seasons as he was concentrating on his defensive role.
When Henderson did play in preseason, he was on the second unit, showing some good physicality inside and disrupting a couple of runs. However, if the Jets continue to follow the pattern from recent years, Henderson won't get on the field unless there's an injury anyway because both David Harris and Demario Davis have typically played three downs.
