Now Commenting On:

Jets WR David Nelson was not at some of the OTAs last week, as he had been quarantined after receiving a mosquito bite in Haiti (Costello, June 6).  At Nelson's worst part of his illness, he had a 104-degree fever and strep throat.  Not wanting to take any chances, the Jets encouraged Nelson to stay home and recuperate.

Nelson, along with his brothers, run a charity dedicated to helping orphans in Haiti.

He was able to return to practice late in the week. He is in the running for the No. 2 receiver position.

Nelson is sincere in his dedication to helping those who can't help themselves, so we hope that he can fully recover from his illness.

Nelson was a late addition to the 2013 roster, playing his first game in Week 5, but it wasn't long after that point that the 6'5" receiver was playing better than two-thirds of the team's snaps in every game.  Nelson was a surprise help to an offense that struggled at the quarterback position.  With another year under his belt, could Geno Smith or Mike Vick make better use of Nelson?  Or is Nelson in a precarious spot with all the other acquisitions the team made this offseason?

We're going to watch Nelson's camp very closely.  Additions like free agent Eric Decker and draftees Jalen Saunders,  Quincy Enunwa and Shaq Evans could squeeze the middle roster spots for players like Nelson and/or Stephen Hill.
