Trade up -- There's been talk that the Jets might be willing to trade up in the first round tonight. The object of their affections is said to be Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham is regarded as the third-best receiver in this class of very good receivers, but we're skeptical that the Jets would give up a raft of picks to move into the top ten picks to take the third best receiver when the player at the position they might get with their original pick (Oregon State WR Brandin Cooks) could be used in a similar capacity.
If they are trading up, it would make more sense that they are targeting Clemson WR Sammy Watkins or Texas A&M WR Mike Evans, the first and second best player at the position respectively and the two players with Julio Jones / Calvin Johnson / AJ Green potential in this draft class.
Hang tight -- If the Jets let the draft come to them, the might not get the optimal player in the first round, but some player that they like a lot is going to slide to them at either cornerback, tight end, receiver or offensive line. The Jets are said to have kept in touch with the draft's top quarterbacks ... would they complicate the Vick/Smith situation if the right player slides to them tonight?
Trade back -- No one is talking about this possibility, but there's rampant speculation that some of the 2014 class's best quarterbacks might not go as high as expected. Manziel was out of NFL Network talent Mike Mayock's Top 15 in his latest mock (though Mayock is more idealist than pragmatist when it comes to mock drafting) draft. Teddy Bridgewater might be tumbling too.
Could the Jets move back in the first round and pick up a player like TCU CB Jason Verrett along with some second or third day picks as a result?
