Jets WR Quincy Enunwa was named the Jets' nominee for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, reports Sports Illustrated.
Enunwa about his nomination on Instagram.
One thing I definitely learned from @edeck87 and @bmarshall was to not let myself be defined as solely an athlete. The NCAA does a lot of things wrong, but maintaining the title of STUDENT athlete for college kids is huge. As athletes we think we're immortal until we're injured and left wondering what are we without our sport. If you get an opportunity to make it professionally always take steps to grow as a person outside of your sport.
Enunwa serves as a volunteer in middle schools through a program that encourages physical activity and speaks to high school football teams, according to Sports Illustrated.
Enunwa has missed the entire season after undergoing surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck. Enunwa had 58 catches for 857 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games for the Jets last season, which was his first full season.
