Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick does not think he will return to the team next season, he told reporters Wednesday.
The second-year Jet is 2-8 this season and has been benched for both Geno Smith and Bryce Petty at different points this year. With Petty injured, Fitzpatrick will start in the team's final game against the Bills on Sunday.
"I think there is probably an obvious reality with the way the year is going to come to a close for me," Fitzpatrick told reporters Wednesday.
A year after Fitzpatrick threw a career-high and Jets record of 31 touchdowns, he has completed just 55.8 percent of his passes and thrown 17 interceptions. Last week against the Patriots he went 8-for-21 with two interceptions when he came in for the injured Petty.
"Yeah, I would say this has been the most difficult just in terms of the expectations I had for myself, for the team, for all of those things," Fitzpatrick said. "For me to not meet some of that stuff definitely has been difficult."
